::Eric sat down at the table after a few minutes::”Hey”::he said, sitting down beside Candace with a plate of ‘road kill’, as they called it, that the school served. The stuff was so unhealthy, but three years of eating it every day made it second nature::
::”Speak of the devil”::Melanie said, smiling at him::
::”Hmph, nope, no one likes you”::Melissa said jokingly, sticking out her tongue with a short giggle::
::”Haha, Missy, and nice to see you too, Mel”::he smiled at them. He was on a friendlier basis with them now, after they got to know each other from the past few months::”Hello, gorgeous”::he said, leaning over and kissing Candace on the cheek::
:
:Candace blushed and smiled at him::”Hello to you too”::she said, taking him by surprise and pecking him on the lips::
::”Aww”::Melanie started::”Eric, that was so cute. Candace, I’m watching you”::She said in a more serious tone. Everyone had a nice laugh at the spectacle. Candace was feeling a lot better now. Sitting there with him made her feel reassured, knowing he was safe. The fact that he was holding her hand, under the table, helped too. They ate their lunches, making casual small talk; joking about teachers and other school related things that were just so stupid that you couldn’t help but laugh::
::”So, we’re gonna ask you now. Did you two behave this weekend?”:: Melissa asked, looking at him::
::”Well”::Eric started wrapping his arm around Candace’s waist and pulling her closer to him::”Define ‘Behave’ “::He gave them a mischievous grin and Candace and Melanie couldn’t help but laugh at the expression on Melissa’s face::”Eww, Ew, Ewww. Nevermind, I don’t wanna know!”::she said before going back to her lunch::
::”Chill, hun”::Candace said, finishing her own meal and throwing the trash away. The bell rang and it was off to classes::
::”Well, gotta go”::Eric said, getting up::”I’ll see you in art”::He kissed Candace goodbye, threw his trash out and walked off towards his next class::
::Candace smiled and went with the girls to their next class as well::

And as my cheeks ran with cold tears, I noticed that they were not all my own. Rain fell from the dark clouds overhead, hitting my face.
At that moment, I realized something:
"Even the heavens weep for the dead."
