Eric Drove to Candace’s, house, early, the next morning. He decided that the fact that they weren’t dating anymore didn’t mean he couldn’t walk her to school. As he walked up the front walkway, he noticed a cop standing outside the door, having a cigarette. Eric walked up the steps, politely acknowledging the policeman and walked in the house where two more cops were standing with Candace’s mother.
“What happened, did you guys get robbed?” He asked, looking concerned as he saw the tears running down her face. The police turned to stare at him.
“No, dear,” Candace’s mother started, looking away from her tea. “Candace went missing in the middle of the night.”
Eric’s heart stopped. He turned his face and his fist banged against the wall with a small thud. After a few moments, he spoke.
“Was she kidnapped?” He asked, looking over at the small group of adults.
“No, she ran away. She left a note.” Her mother took the piece of paper from the kitchen table and handed it to him.
Eric read it over and grasped it in his fist. He looked up at the cops, a fire in his eyes. “Please, do everything you can to find her,” He said, looking at each one. He then looked at Candace’s mother, still crying into her tea.
“I’ll call as soon as I find something.” He promised her made his way to the door. Eric most likely broke every speeding law he could when his Ferrari peeled off down the street.
The city side roads were nothing as his engine roared; kicking up whatever debris lay in his path. He sped towards the vampire manor, hoping to find either Darien or Alexa still home. What luck, the Silver Porsche was, slowly, backing out of the driveway. Eric slammed the breaks, jamming the steering wheel to the right and his car spun, coming to a stop at the bottom of the driveway, blocking entrance, and exit. The Porsche came to a stop as well, and Darien stepped out. Eric rolled down the window and peered out at him.
“What do you want?” Darien asked in a cold tone. He had obviously gone hunting and was really just showing his hatred towards him. “Shouldn’t you and Candace be on your way to school?”
“That’s just it, Darien, Candace ran away. She’s been missing since last night.” Eric replied, trying not to waste time. Darien simply gave him another dirty look. “So what, it’s not my problem. She’s not my girlfriend. She hates me.”
“Oh, shut up!” Eric yelled from the car. You wanna know why Candace ran away? It’s because she’s sick of hurting the two of us by picking the other. She wants you to be happy just as much as she wants me to be and she thinks she can never have your forgiveness. Believe it or not, we’re not dating anymore. She left because it was hurting you for her to be with me, and it was hurting me for her not to be with me. She cares about you, you jackass!” Darien stared at him, wondering if this wasn’t just some setup.
“Fine, I’ll help you look.” He started walking back to his Porsche to get in.
“No.” Eric said from the window. “Just hop in. This thing’s got twice the horsepower of your little go-cart.”
Darien didn’t like the comment, but it was correct. They’d cover more ground, quickly, if they used the Ferrari. He got in and they sped off to check every motel in the area. She had to be somewhere, and they would find her.

And as my cheeks ran with cold tears, I noticed that they were not all my own. Rain fell from the dark clouds overhead, hitting my face.
At that moment, I realized something:
"Even the heavens weep for the dead."
