Chapter II- The New Return of an Old Enemy
“C’mon, hurry it up!” Robin yelled to his lagging team-members, he was always the obsessive one over this kind of thing. Cyborg was already up there somewhere by him, with Starfire close behind. Kai, Beast Boy, and Raven were in close pursuit. Kai loved these “first-minute” battles; they always gave her some kind of exhilaration. Beast Boy, on the other hand, was usually cautious when he was around these fights, only attacking when necessary . . . for some reason, though, he had a strange feeling that he would have to go all-out in this one. He peered over at Raven at this point, and for a spilt-second, he could have sworn he saw fear in her eyes.
He slowed his pace for a minute or two, just so he could figure out what was going on. Kai followed his lead; she knew the others would take care of whatever was going on ahead.
“Dude, what’s with you?” he asked Raven, not in an annoyed tone but more of a concerned one. She shook her head in a flash, as if to say everything was okay.
“Nothing . . . it’s nothing Beast Boy,” she muttered. She didn’t show anyone her face at that point; she had wiped the tears from her eyes. As she second-guessed about going on ahead or not, and as she started to walk again, she noticed a quick flicker of light from the alleyway from the right. It was almost mesmerizing, but just a second after she glimpsed at it, it disappeared.
“Hey, come on, we’re missing all the action!” Kai whined, and she and Beast Boy started to walk again. Raven followed warily, she wondered what she had just seen . . . and what it had to do with anything.
“It was probably just a reflection of something,” she thought to herself as she caught up with Kai. They instantly started to walk faster, Kai was obviously eager to kick someone’s butt. Of course, they hadn’t a clue what was going on with Robin and the others . . . and they didn’t know who was really behind this whole “battle”, but just as they reached the plaza where Robin and the others waited patiently. . .
The same silvery light flashed right across Raven’s left shoulder. When she whipped her neck around to see what happened, the fabric where the light had touched was spilt about an inch-and-a-half apart. At first, she thought the object had missed her, but as she turned back around facing front, a burning, stinging sensation erupted through her arm all the way down to her elbow. She clutched the raw area with her right hand, her arm across her chest. Beast Boy turned around as he noticed that Raven had stopped walking . . . and he cried out
“Raven, your arm, it’s bleeding!” Raven’s eyes drifted to her shoulder again, to see her dark blood oozing through her fingers, a few drops splattering the grey concrete below by her feet. She grimaced for a moment; her arm was blazing with horrible pain. She fell to one knee as she tried to stop the blood from flowing from the wound that had been inflicted to her shoulder. Kai had already called the others over, but before anything else could be done, a voice rang out, a voice that hadn’t been heard for over a year.
