CHAPTER III - Enemy Emerged
“Is this the same girl I’ve fought before? It truly doesn’t seem like it . . .” the powerful and commanding voice said with a hint of pride. A figure’s silhouette instantly etched out in the early morning fog. It was somewhat tall, but as it grew closer the details were more elaborate. The figure looked to be at least six feet tall, most of its body was covered in a dark-grey cloak; the only thing showing through the dense fog was the glint of faint light across an object that the figure was holding, it was the detached blade of a pocket knife. The figure chuckled as Robin gritted his teeth, and it exclaimed “The spell’s a nice touch, huh? It’s really too bad I missed though, it would have been way easier than fighting you kids.” His mouth curved into a wicked smile again as he emphasized the last word. Beast Boy’s fists clenched at these crude remarks, he knew who this guy was already.
“Well, enough of hiding, you punks know the drill . . .” the man said with a grin, and with a seconds-notice, he ripped the cloak from his body. The man was wearing a crow-black long-sleeved shirt and pants, the shirt covered by steel armor covering his torso and upper back; etched in the center of it was a blood-red “S”. His facial expression was cold and somewhat curious, an evil smile plastered on his face. His hair was spiked up slightly, with the back of it falling loosely to his upper neck; it was a deep violet color. The most extreme of his features were his cunning eyes, the pupils were a solid black, with a hint of burgundy-red around the edges. His hands were covered in a dark glove-like material, most likely so he could conjure up a shield or attack of some kind. This older teen was known as “Rage”, his last name Roth, but to Raven he was known as “big brother”. His skills were insanely powerful, caution was a priority. Everyone knew he was a master of pyromania, with the ability to cast fire at will . . . and it didn’t look like he was going to go easy on anyone.
“Well . . .?” he smirked, his eyes shining. Robin was about to tell his team to go on defense, but before he could even make a simple gesture . . . the worst scenario was taking place.
Beast Boy turned a bit to the area where Raven stood. He stared in silence as he watched her body language; she looked as if she was going to snap into a fury of rage. Her fists were clenched so much that they were shaking, her knuckles white, with her fingernails digging into her palm. Beast Boy couldn’t see her face completely, only the tears dripping down her visible cheek. He felt he needed to comfort her, but as he inched his body towards hers, he was flung back in a burst of dark energy, Raven’s hand pointed towards where he stood moments ago.
“This is my battle, don’t interfere!” she snarled at Beast Boy’s frightened face. He hadn’t been hurt, he was just in shock from the sudden impact his friend had set at him. Kai ran to his aid, the expression she had as she looked towards Raven was full of hurt and confusion. Rage smiled again, his voice was now almost coaxing Raven to kill him.
“You’re no challenge, so don’t act tough; you know you can’t even lay a finger on me,” he declared; he knew this would cause at least one punch to be thrown at him. As he inspected, Raven shot forward, her fist pulled back behind her.
“Raven, no!” Robin and Cyborg cried out in unison. Raven had no intention of listening to anything but the sweet crunch of her fist against her hated brother’s ribcage. Kai and Starfire actually tried to stop the feudal attempt, but no prevail. They were flung aside as Beast Boy had been before.
