Teen Titan Fanfic - Chapter 14
CHAPTER XIV- A Break from Trouble

The sun shone hazily through the open window, casting a curtain of light across the room. Raven’s eyes fluttered open slightly; she couldn’t remember anything from the moment she blacked out. All she recalled was the horrible pain she felt, and closing her eyes after it.
“Where-----am I?” she mumbled, her memory was a bit blurred, her head throbbed when she moved her body. She grimaced as she held her hand to her head . . . it was blazing hot. She could tell that there was a wrapped bandage around her forehead from the texture. She quickly noticed the door was open halfway, and someone had already walked into the room.
“Hey, how are you doing? You’ve been asleep for a while now,” a voice said to her, it was Beast Boy’s voice.
“I feel like I’ve been hit by a freakin’ truck . . . how long was I out?” Raven murmured as she let her arms swing loosely from the sides of the bed she was lying on.
“About four hours or so,” Beast Boy announced, and he gently put a hand on her head; she was still burning up. The Titans later figured out that Rage had literally burned a small part of her skull, causing her temperature to rise above normal for the time being, it was slowly receding now.
“I’ll go find Kai, she’ll be glad to see you,” Beast Boy told Raven, she nodded feebly and laid her head down again. She thought to herself
“So . . . this is how I ended up? At least I’m not dead . . . yet.” She knew that Rage was waiting for her to come and find him; she knew that there really was a curse he had set on her; the only thing she didn’t know was how long it took for the curse to take over. For all she knew, it could happen in a few minutes, or in a few hours. She really pushed her hope towards the few hours rather than minutes. Her thought was interrupted by the squeak of door hinges, and Kai’s head poking through the crack in the doorway.
“Finally, my boredom has officially ended!” Kai cheered with a broad smile on her face. She scrambled over to Raven’s bedside; her eyes were shining with impatience for her friend to talk with her.
“You’re all okay . . . right?” Raven asked her, she nodded quickly and exclaimed
“Yeah, Rage didn’t do anything to anyone else-----how’s your head by the way? It looked like it hurt . . .” Her expression was now sympathetic and somewhat worried.
“It still hurts . . . just a bit . . .” Raven sighed; she didn’t want to worry Kai too much.
“Think you can stand?” Kai asked her, Raven shrugged, and gingerly pushed herself up into a sitting position, trying to ignore the pulse in her head. She swung her legs over the side of the bed, and stood up for a second, but her knees buckled beneath her. Luckily Kai was there to catch her when she stumbled. “You okay?” she asked Raven sympathetically, she nodded and said with a slight grin,
“Yeah . . . just a bit sore,” Kai giggled and smiled at her.
“C’mon, everyone’s waiting for you!” she exclaimed, and she threw Raven’s arm over her shoulder.
“What are you doing?” Raven mumbled, Kai looked annoyed and replied
“I’m helping you out of course. If you can’t stand, what makes you think you can walk?” Raven smiled halfway and thanked her.
“No problem,” Kai said as she partially dragged Raven to where the others waited patiently in the main room.

Robin looked up from the magazine he was reading, and grinned as Kai came into the room with Raven by her side.
“Feeling better?” he asked Raven, she nodded slightly. Starfire reacted to her nod by bear-hugging her to a bone-crushing level.
“Friend, you are okay!” she giggled, Raven murmured
“Yes . . .” as Starfire let go of her. Robin quickly added,
“Cyborg and Beast Boy are out on the beach, they’d want to see you too,” Kai grinned and pulled Raven beside her again. They had only reached the outside of the door that led to the beach when a green beagle ran up and literally tackled Raven to the ground. Raven scratched him behind the ears and in exchange was kissed by a rough, wet tongue. Cyborg trudged up the path as Beast Boy jumped around in his dog form, yipping and barking happily, his tail wagging with glee.
“So . . . you threw the Frisbee into a tree on purpose I’m guessing?” he asked the dog and Beast Boy resumed normal form.
“Uh . . . . . kind of,” Beast Boy answered with his hand behind his head. Cyborg rolled his eyes, and pulled Raven up from the sandy concrete.
“’Bout time you came, lover-boy was getting worried about you,” he said with a smirk as he pulled her into a side-hug, Beast Boy lightly punched him in his other arm.
“Shut up tin-man,” he grumbled, his face was tinted a light pink. Kai poked him in the chest and laughed
“You’re blushing dude.” Beast Boy mumbled
“You’re not helping Kai!” Raven grinned at his ashamed appearance. She sat on the boulder beside him. She put an arm around his shoulder and whispered in his ear,
“Don’t worry, they’re just jealous, I think it’s cute.” Beast Boy just grinned foolishly. Kai’s shrill yelp interrupted their talk, and Raven turned towards where it came from. Kai was now sitting in the salty break of the ocean waves. Cyborg stood over her, laughing his head off.
“Hey, no fair, I wasn’t ready yet!” she shouted at him, her hair dripping with saltwater, her clothes completely soaked.
“That’s why you pay attention!” Cyborg chuckled as he started to back up a bit. Kai got up and started to run after him.
“You’re so dead when I get you! So dead!” she yelled after him, her clothes still dripping with the cold seawater as she raced to cut him off. Beast Boy instantly grabbed a piece of driftwood and flung it at Cyborg’s feet, he tumbled to the ground.
“Yeah, direct hit!” he cried out as he watched Kai literally lunge out at Cyborg’s body. They tussled playfully, Kai ended up getting pinned down to the ground.
“One . . . two . . . three . . . DING-DING-DING, and the new champion is no other than Cyborg-the-Merciless!” Cyborg called out with pride as Kai got up from the sand.
“Merciless? You’ve got to be kidding me . . .” Kai joked, “. . . you’re a big teddy-bear if anything else!” She giggled as Cyborg pulled her into a bear-hug. Raven watched them play, her arms around her knees. She couldn’t imagine that there was a battle going on, it was too nice to even think about anything like that right now. With the surf breaking lightly, and the warm breeze blowing freely through her hair, there was no way that anyone could have any kinds of trouble today . . . it was too perfect for anything to go wrong.
