Teen Titan Fanfic - Chapter 6
Chapter VI- Washing It All Away

At first Beast Boy couldn’t believe what he had heard. He gasped “Wha---What did you say . . .?” his eyes were wide with fright “Please . . . tell me, you’re joking.” Kai shook her head, Beast Boy saw the tears in her eyes . . . he tried to stop himself from crying as well. He bit his lip to not concentrate on anything else. He closed his eyes tightly, as if to wake up from the horrible nightmare he was stuck in . . . it couldn’t be real. He tried to stay awake and protest that this was all a hoax, but before he even knew it he closed his eyes again. He fell asleep against the wall, with the moonlight still casting a shadow across the room.

When Beast Boy woke up again, the sun was already shining. He guessed it was about nine in the morning from the frost still on the window. Kai wasn’t in the room anymore; he knew she was already up. He transformed into a cat to stretch out his back, it hurt from sleeping upright that whole time. He turned back into human form a short while after, and looked out the window. “Man, I wish you could see this Rae, it looks so beautiful . . .” he told her as he looked at the frost covered city across the bay. He noticed that she hadn’t even moved a muscle since last night. He guessed she was still trying to heal herself, and with a quick movement he slipped out of the room.
Beast Boy ran down the stairs two steps at a time, he practically tripped on the last two. He looked a bit more jumpy today than usual.
“’Bout time you got here,” Cyborg called out to him from the kitchen. He pondered on the fact that he hadn’t been here earlier, and he motioned to Robin to talk to Beast Boy about what was going on. Robin tried to not make it look obvious as he walked from the counter, but Beast Boy saw right through his disguise.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” he growled through his teeth, he sounded more disappointed than angry. Robin sighed for a moment, put a hand on Beast Boy’s shoulder, and said
“We didn’t want you to worry too much . . . she’ll be fine, just give her a few days.” Beast Boy put a hand up to argue, but decided against it. He’d just get tied up in more knots than he already was. He quickly turned towards Kai, who at this point was gnawing contently on the core of her apple, and told her to follow him. She got up and with a half-turn flung her apple into the trash can. She then grabbed her grey-denim jacket and followed Beast Boy out the door.

The two teens briskly trotted through the frosty, early morning air, each of them could still see their breath. Kai walked a bit slower today, she was obviously enjoying the cooler weather. Beast Boy paced himself by her side until they reached the beach, then he shot forward to the biggest boulder on the sand. He and Kai had made this giant rock their meeting place. They came here mostly when they were bored, or less likely, when something was wrong with the other. Kai scrambled after him, almost losing her grip on the boulder as she swung herself up on top. She grinned as Beast Boy transformed into a monkey and jumped up after her. He resumed normal form when he sat down again, and Kai boasted “Beat you again!” Beast Boy announced with a grin
“But I’ve beat you five times in a row, so I win!” Kai’s proud face turned into one of defeat, just for a joke. She was glad to see him smile again, even after the night before. She turned her gaze to the rocky shore ahead of them, the waves were crashing softly and the seagulls squawked gaily as they moved about in the wind. Everything looked so peaceful out here, like nothing was wrong in the world. Even though a horrible battle was going on . . . it was as if it all was washed away by the salty waves.
