Chapter VIII- Awake
Kai’s eyes widened; her tight grip on Beast Boy’s body suddenly loosened up. Beast Boy grinned slightly, he knew she’d pull through somehow, she always did. Kai stepped away from Beast Boy’s grip, and took a step forward. She walked the first few steps as if she had slowed in time completely. Her throat was as dry as a desert, she could barely remember to breathe, let alone say a word. After a quick moment of swallowing to actually be able to speak again [even though her voice still came out as a stammered whisper], she choked “. . . Raven . . .?” The figure turned towards them slightly, and a voice replied with a slight murmur
“Yeah . . .? What are you doing here?” The somewhat melancholy voice asked her. With one sudden movement and with a second’s notice as well, Kai’s arms wrapped around the figure's slim body.
“My God, I didn’t think ----- I didn’t think you’d make it . . . I missed you Rae,” she sobbed. She felt tears roll down her cheeks again; she didn’t care anymore, she knew her friend was okay.
“Trust me . . . I didn’t think I would either . . .” Raven smiled, “. . . I’m surprised I’m still in one piece,” she concluded. Kai showed her special “the-world-is-hilarious” smile; Raven missed it. Kai turned her head to where Beast Boy stood in the dark, and motioned for him to come over. He waltzed his body over to Raven’s bedside, every step perfect and according to Raven’s view, somewhat attractive.
“Hey, ‘bout time you came back from the dead. How are you feeling?” he joked, his emerald eyes seemed to shine as he passed the window. No matter how much he seemed like he had changed, Raven knew he was still the jokester in every situation.
“Ha, very funny . . .” she remarked, rolling her eyes a bit. Beast Boy stood to the right of the bed beside Kai now; his expression was indescribable. He looked like he was happy to be alive, as if he might as well turn a back-flip out of pure joy; but his eyes told a different story. They looked almost frightened, like he was staring at a ghost instead of her. “What’s wrong Beast Boy?” she questioned him, she realized there was worry in her voice.
He muttered solemnly “N-nothing, it’s just that . . . I . . .” his fists suddenly clenched, and without even thinking before he acted, his lips pressed against hers. He had waited way too long; he closed his eyes, and he put his hands on her shoulders. This moment was too good to waste. It didn’t last as long as the ones he had seen at the end of horror movies, when the good guy rescues the girl and everything . . . but he thought it was an average-timed first kiss. He was drowning deep in the passion he had set free right then, and he was too lost in it to care about anything else. Suddenly his sub-conscious kicked in, and he opened his eyes a bit, just to see Raven’s reaction to his sudden move. He was just as surprised as Kai was that her eyes were closed as well; her hand was on Beast Boy’s blushing cheek. He noticed that there was a faint pink streak across her pale face, she was blushing too. Beast Boy quickly let go of his embrace, and quietly cursed himself for being an “idiot”. Raven looked somewhat surprised, the pink tint on her face turned into a harsher shade; it was almost red. Beast Boy noticed her staring beyond him, and he noticed that the lights were on dimly. He spun around with lightning-speed; to be staring into an open door which Kai stood next to . . . with all the other Titans in the doorway. Kai had her cell phone out in front of her; she had taken a picture of them.
“So . . . . . I’m guessing you’re awake?” Robin smirked with a slight grin.
