Godmoding otherwise known as Powerplay is another term that needs some defining, because it is easy to godmode without realizing it, and there are several levels of godmoding. Most threads have rules against it no matter the literate level, but some thread hosts tend to be hypocritical about it, partly because of the lack of definition. So What is God moding/Power play?
By Definition God Moding/Power Play is:
The act by which no other outcome is possible except the outcome the godmoder or powerplayer wishes. This includes but not limited to:
- Being all powerful, and all knowing
- This also includes being insanely powerful, or having uncounterable powers, or being able to read all minds regardless and taking advantage of it.
- Already stating the outcome of an action (mainly concerning fights).
- Moving other people's characters, directing their focus/attention, etc (you cannot tell a person what they see or think)
Now before I go on to the problems with God Moding, I like to state now I am not completely against it, generally thread hosts who own inns (or any sort of rp business) should have some mild god mode powers to break up fights if need by but only then. I also am not against to giving to an extent certain god mode abilties (mainly in terms of character strength and power) to anyone who is playing the villian within a role play story, because knowing that the villian is a villian right off the bat is so mild of a god mode it is not worth calling upon, so the villain needs some protection.
Otherwise God Moding especially in fights is very problematic, partly because no one likes to lose, and everyone likes to be strong more or less. There are people out there that just claim to be all superior and those people should be shot, but there are others who do not meant to god mode because it is far too easy to. My advice is:
Be aware of your character's strengthens and weaknesses, and do give them weaknesses. This will keep their power from going completely out of control in a fight, there's a chance it means you'll have to lose, but suck it up. Unless the person is trying to kill you (which is another matter completely), then you might want to forgo that.
Be realistic, not everyone is super fast or super strong, it does not make them any weaker, it just they're not perfect.
There is nothing harder in a fight (and even I'll admit this) than to admit defeat, sometimes it is better to back off due to injury rather than cause a great deal of damage and aggverate people.
