People (my friends) think I should write this, partly because I complain a lot about the subject in general, but also it is an issue on role playing I think that has no direct right answer. The problem is the novel post, which I know I said I don't do, however the problem becomes what is my take on the whole idea. Do I agree with the idea that a literate should write a novel post?
Now by a novel post, though I have not had a chance to figure out an average, an example is something that is rougly three paragraphs with seven lines, so twenty-one lines of writing. Now do I agree with that sort of post?
Yes.. and no to be honest.
I say yes, because of course there are people out there who naturally describe a lot that is going on around them. I tend to do this too, especially with introductions in the commerce, depending on what is occuring long posts are neccesary and I won't disagree with that. In addition that is how people express themselves, so if someone is going to give me a long post, I will read it all. I hate people who say it's too long to read, but really it won't kill them. It's good to read a bit, so to complain about someone else's length being too long, I think is pointless. If I expect them to pay attention to what I write, then I shall do the same. To do less would make the point of role playing pointless if you miss something about the character.
However.... I do not believe one should force another to write roughly twenty-one lines of role play. I see there are people who write that much insist their partners should role play with that many lines, believing there is no reason for the person not to be able to do so.
At this point you might think I'm hypocritical as I'm the person who does not like one liners, however I wish to disagree before anyone can point this out. What I have a problem with one liners is that the person is not trying, there is always something more than just dialogue another can write, in addition the biggest problem with a one liner is that it slows down the role play, even stops it all together because of the lack of information to react to.
In the end, it's all about the role play, the stories of the characters that get carried out. If a person feels they need to put more in for others around them to understand the story, fine, but if a person doesn't need to or the moment doesn't need to, then don't make them. Don't make them go into pointless description that in the end means nothing, but only a waste of words. It doesn't help the role play and it only fustrates the person.
No one... or at least no one who likes to be to the point like myself can always write twenty-one lines of role play. Especially when I'm having a deep coversation wtih someone in character, after all what am I going to do? Go into a deep long thought process? No.... what if I don't want you to know what I'm thinking? After all.. sometimes leaving things out, makes the role play more interesting for your partner. Besides... my characters aren't that thougthful, sure they're intelligent, but if in conversation they aren't going to go on and on about what is running through their heads.
There is description, but you're not going to write about every ruslte of clothing and your character can't move around too much to the point where they're figeting... unless that is what they do. Not everyone can do it, and some of us just don't like to write things that have nothing to do with what is going on. Yes, I dress up what I write, I think about this reaction to another reaction, but there is always a limit to what I can write. Just because I cannot write twenty-one lines doesn't mean I can't keep up with you, that's just the way I write. The last thing I want to do is write meanlessness words, or accidently god mode because I write too far in advance.
So why make me?
It doesn't mean I'm less of a role player, who knows, you might like my characters or what ideas spring randomly from my head. It just means I don't like to make my muse obese.
