Since I am totally bored out of my skull, I've decided to put in one of my first drafts (which needs some serious re-editing/non-clicheness to it) of my manga "Real Life Fantasy". I'm not posting this really for critique, just because I have nothing better to do and haven't had written in here for awhile. Oh and just to tell you, I'm very aware of it's huge faults. XD
Kale Ransen was your usual fourteen-year-old-boy living in the suburbs of Montreal. Seeing that it was the end of the school year, everyone was getting ready for the holidays the summer holidays. Unfortunately, Kale’s starts out bad when his girlfriend dumps him for an older, more macho guy, and most of his friends are also leaving for most of the summer. Plus, his grandpa is acting weird, as usual with his weird fantasy obsession. Everyone knows all those stories are extremely clichéd and always have the same ending. One night, Kale’s grandfather decides to give him a funny looking bracelet (OMG! LOTR!). Suddenly, while playing some videogames in the living room weird goblins come out of nowhere and attack him! With nowhere to run, Kale tries to hide in his closet when it turns out to really be a portal to another world! (**Gasps** Inu-yasha!) There, he meets up with a Wolf Ranger named Navet who and a weird, mad-hatter type witch Zephyr. Just when he thought his journey was supposed to be like every other fantasy adventure, his story turns out to be quite different. Welcome, my friends, to the land of Sevin.
Yes, my dearies, the whole idea of this story is to kinda make fun of fantasies stories like Lord of the Rings, Inu-yasha, and such. I find it’s hard making an original manga these days, seeing that most ideas have been taken, so what better then just to poke some fun at the whole thing. The story was actually very different from when I first started it up. It was actually suppose to be an actual fantasy story. You know, the usual ‘outgoing boy with sword and shy girl with staff go and save the land from darkness and all things evil’. I guess that idea started when I was about thirteen-fourteen and many of my stories were cliched anyways (accidentally though). Then I started to make things more and more goofy until I decided that it would be more or less of a parody of Inu-yasha, Monster Rancher and Lord of the Rings kind of stories. Seeing that this was one of my first ideas for a manga, I just can't let it go, no matter how unorignal it sounds.
For more seriousness/originality to it though, seeing that I've been raised in an Inuit village, a few of the beings in the story are inspired by Inuit Folklore. Mostly the story of the Goddess Sedna and also The Legend of the Northern Lights (which is also what you would call an old wives tale.) Read up on them. You'll understand why I chose them. 3nodding
Oh, I'm probably gonna be adding some bios and my other more original stories.
