Yesh, so I got a PM saying they wanted me to Nominate. Yay for me. ^^ Anyways, I needed a space to put all my reasons on why I voted for Best Overall what, so I figured since I haven't used this space in awhile, mind as well put it here.
Best Manga Overall Series: Rurouni Kenshin It has Action, it has Drama, it has Comedy and Romance! Rurouni Kenshin in my opinion has what every manga reader could want. I completed the series a good two-three years ago, yet I still can't get enough of it. The characters are colourful and have great personalities. The artwork at the beginning was pretty average, but you can really say the change over the years. By the end, the artwok may have undergone a huge makeover, but I would say it was for the best. It's nearly flawless.
Rurouni Kenshin is considered a Shonen Manga, but in my opinion, it could also fall into the Shojo category as well. As the story you notice there is a love story of betrayal and regret. Something that many viewers of today seem to be drawn towards. But, seeing that not everyone is into that, there is also the classic hero's tale. Whether it is Kenshin, Yahiko, Soujiro or even Enishi, they are all on a journey in search of something. Forgiveness, vengence, or just finding themselves, it is indeed all there.
There is also the Comedy aspect of it. In fact, there is a lot of it. Which is probably what drawn me the most. It's just some innocent random humour, which you just can't but crack up to. The chibi faces that Wastuki draws out are just priceless. The smiles, the frowns, Saitou's random thoughts. He definantly had a lot of fun with the humour. So, for those who like funny manga, don't worry, it has plenty of it.
Well, I'd say that jutifies why I believe Rurouni Kenshin is the Best Overall Manga of the year. So there. I could probably say a lot more, but I'm lazy. >.>
Best Overall Video Game: Resident Evil 4 It was a hard one, but I finally decided that RE4 rocks my socks. Which is weird, it doesn't have the story that I've so come to love from Final Fantasy VII, yet it didn't scare the crap out of me for several months like Fatal Frame. What left a mark then? Well, let's take a look at it.
Okay, storyswise, it's pretty cliche. It makes you think of one of those action movies from the Ninties. President's daughter gets kidnapped. You play Leon S Kennedy- Secret Agent Hottie Extrodinaire- who is sent to go and save her. You end up in a country where no one speaks the same language as you and they want to kill. Yep. Action movie right there. The one difference is that instead of pycho terrorists/assassins/you get the picture kind of people, you get a pyscho zombie cult. That makes things interesting. Either way, it's obvious that the story isn't it's strong point. What really matters in this case are the gameplay and graphics.
I won't deny it. I'm not a veteran gamer. I love graphics. Sure, I play games that are still 2D and have a blast. But, there's something about beautifully detailed settings that make me squeal like the fangirl I am. Now, RE4, doesn't have beautiful settings. No. It has creepy 'something is going to jump out and strangle me/stab/shoot me in the neck' settings. That is good. That makes me smile as well. The abandoned houses, the funky military base, the lake with the mutated fish thing... all marvelous. Capcom really knows how to sucker me in. Even with the old RE games, they really made the settings suit the atmosphere. Keep on doing that and they will soon keep me completely glued to the screen forever. If it wasn't for Tecmo's Fatal Frame setting, RE4 would have been my Numero Uno.
Alright, so now you're probably wondering why I still chose this as my best overall videgame, well I'll tell you. It was fun. Seriously fun. I know it may sound very disturbing, but I love the feeling of taking up my shotgun and blowing off some Ganado's head several times during the day. The surrounding were very interactive. The fact you you were able to block entrances, jump out of windows, push down ladders was just damn entertaining. The puzzles weren't too bad either, and just seeing the shopkeeper open his coat was just damn funny. I loved it. I really did. If you don't , then that's okay, but if you do, than you probably love it for the same reasons as I. The funness of it. (And Leon is half bad lookig either, but I guess that doesn't count)
