Chapter 1: Of Wood and Fire
The fire's blaze whipped up and around the night as Rayne, the Elven ranger sat staring into the flames. It had been three days since she had left the human town forsaking their comfortable inns for the dark woods surrounding the village. She sat silent and polished her diasho pair as seemed befitting the evening, relaxed and calm. Stroking a set rythm, Rayne paused only a moment to sweep a black-green lock out of her navy eyes. It was then that the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end, she lay the cloth that she had dampened with oil to the side and swiped clean her katana. She hesitated only a moment before diving headlong into the bushes to dodge the flight of arrows that peirced the log where she sat moments before.
"Damn!" She thought as the next flight pushed her further into the woods.
"What did I do to deserve this!!?" She sliced an arrow in two with a backslash of her wakizashi and whipped around a tree as three more arrows embedded themselves into its trunk.
"Come out DEMON!!!" Cried a voice rayne recognized as the village head.
" Come out and face your DEATH!" Rayne sighed loudly prompting more bolts her way, and slumped to the ground.
"Why me?" She knew back in the inn she should have paid more attention to the cloaked figure that sat watching her, but she had merely dismissed him as a traveler like herself....obviously he had been waiting for this chance.
