Chapter 7: The Paladin
Drop swung his spear in a wide arch, taking the straw dummie's head with the attack. Something was amiss, he noted as he wiped his brow with the back of his white sleeve. Training usually took all of his concentration but today it was just routine. A call sounded from one of the gaurd towers posted at the Eastern corner of the Fort and Drop imediatly left the courtyard to investigate.
"Sir," The young half-elf proclaimed as Drop entered the Gaurd tower.
"A traveler approaches." Drop nodded and hopped onto the thin ledge that served as a window and sheilded his eyes from the sun with his hand to gaze at the newcomer. The small figure was on foot that was fot certain, but why come such a long way without a mount? A horse at least. He stopped squinting as the sun faded into the western sky and he saw for the first time the figure clearly.
"Rayne." He breathed grateful that it was not the herald of another raid. He clapped the young halfbreed on the shoulder and then jumped away to land in front of the gate leading into CandelKeep.
The Paladin had not seen Rayne since their journey into the southern region and there they had parted ways, he returning to his fortress and she to wander the world in search of...something. That had always eluded Rayne, there was something that she had wanted to find out but never seemed to get any closer to on her many journeys. Well, maybe that was why she had come here, to tell him what it was that she searched for, However as the Elf drew ever closer, the look in her eyes told Drop that it was not so.
