Take time to fish out the guppies.
Dreams (exchange 34)

The thick forest air made his breath catch the moment he lost sight of the city. There was something about the thickness of the trees that created an air of age and heaviness. The dank musky air seemed to suit his mood. His letter had only brought him lower in his despair. His words ran again and again, as if he were speaking them to her in person....

Dear Amara,

Maybe you were right. Maybe you are not. That is for you to decide. As for me, I am going to find out for myself. I am sorry for the way I behaved to you yesterday. I should not have acted that way. But anything I say can not nor ever will change the past. The past is the past. As such, it is meant to be looked back upon and learned from, for it cannot be changed. However, there is the future. The future is that slim hope that we all cling onto, that keeps us striving to do greater things. And with every future, there is always a choice. After all, there is a choice in all things.

I fear that my choice may not be the wisest, nor the most bright. But it is my choice and I will follow through. I am on my way to Gheard, a little village just to the south of the woodlands. I hope that there I might find some peace at last. If ever the occasion arises that you need me, send a messenger and I will come at once. Until then, my fair lady, I bid you farewell.

Jaelin Kilik

The Baron read the letter over once silently, and then aloud to her. She felt the blood draining out of her face as she listened. Finally, she lay the letter flat on his desk, staring at her over it.

"What, exactly, is the meaning of this?"

The dreams stopped that night. She didn't know why, but not once did she stand amid the cheering crowd again. Jaelin had stuck to his resolve and disappeared from her life altogether. If he dreamed of her, it was of a dream version of her based on his memories, and not the real her wandering into his dreams.

Months passed, and there was no word from her in the city. Even the news from the city was often long outdated before being told in Gheard. But one piece of news was big enough to reach them quickly. The Baroness had returned home and days later the Baron was found dead in his study. It was quite the scandal, creating much buzz.

A timid knock sounded on Jaelin's door that night. Amara was there, waiting with a small amount of personal belongings.
