Dreams (exchange 39)
"Tut tut!" Faeil chided. "My home is your home. Old friends of Jael are far and few between, so he tells us, and you are the first we have met. This calls for celebration on your behalf. When you are found out by the rest of the village in the morning, they will want to invite you to dinner, question you endlessly, and, most amusingly, ask you if you are courting my good friend Jaelin."
"That's enough for now, Faeil," Jaelin said, if he had any inclination that Amara might have thought into that statement, he might have blushed. "Right now, she needs a hot meal and some space." Faeil left for the food with a sly grin on her face. The two sat at an empty table. "I think this town will take you in faster than it did me. We may not see each other much because of everyone trying to be your new family. Is there anything in particular you need from me before they take you away?"
"That's very kind of you," Amara said to the idea of being welcomed by the entire town. It seemed like an idea from a dream... She frowned for only a second as she remembered the dream Jaelin used to have about her in a celebrating crowd. But Faeil's mention of if she was courting Jaelin brought her back to the conversation at hand with a blush rising on her cheeks.
She thanked Faeil again as she brought them food. "Do you really think they'll welcome me like she said they would? I am an outsider, after all..." It was very obvious by the way she spoke that she was having trouble imagining being treated like a guest of honor in the town.
"There isn't anything I can really ask of you. You've done plenty already. But I do need to ask you one thing, and I hope you're honest with me." She looked up from her food to him, her eyes catching his. "If you don't want me in this town, making your life a mess, tell me now. I'll stay the night and be on my way. I don't want to be any sort of burden to you."
