Dreams (exchange 32)
The trip home was the loneliest he had ever remembered. Shortcuts never seemed so long. Crowds never seemed so thick. Everything about his home was changed for the worst. He listed all the wrongs that the city had ever caused him to justify his feelings. The end result was an endless sea of cons and one benefit: Amara.
He tried not to think of her when he fell across his bed that afternoon. He had not the strength to wander the outlying woods outside the city, nor the will capacity to conjure a magical cure for the flu for Taarven. All he could do was sleep. And dre-- No! He had to stay awake. For his dreams were haunted with her every night and day. The only way to escape her infinite-reaching hold on his life was to escape dreams themselves. He sat with his head in his hands for hours trying to prevent thoughts of Amara slipping into his mind. A task truly the most difficult he had ever tasked himself to. But in the end, his bodily weariness forbade him to stare awake and he fell into another disturbed sleep. Another dream.
In the dream, the crowd around Amara seemed even more animated than usual. But she seemd even more stoic than ever. The most noticeable thing about her was the way her eyes were downcast, like she didn't want to see him.
The entire time she was in the dream, she was trying to figure out why she kept being dragged here. What significance did this dream have? She was sick of watching the people rejoice in the streets, of him seeing her from across the crowd, the moment he took a step toward her and the world faded...
She woke up in a bad mood the next day and set about her usual tasks with more determination than usual. All she wanted to do was forget the words he'd shouted at her the morning before, but the more she tried to not think about them, the louder they seemed to become in her head.
