Dreams (exchange 28 )
"Because it is the only job that I can have that people will appreciate. People will only look me in the eye to say, 'You're late' or, 'It's about time.' At least by delivering food to them, they'll talk to me." Jaelin stood and turned to the rose bushes. His hand lightly carressed their pedals thoughtfully. "Which is another reason why I am not afraid to talk to you. You will look at me and talk with me." He turned back and gave Amara a weak smile. "Besides, I don't think I'm the one meant to slay dragons or save damsels in distress.
"What about you? What do you want to do with your life?"
She frowned at his answer, and saved the immediate question it brought to her mind for later.
"I don't know what I want to do with my life. I know what I'll be doing with it... but I've never had any reason to think about what I want to do. I don't have a choice in the matter and filling my head with wants will only leave me dissatisfied and angry about my life. It's really not so bad... being a slave... I've never had to worry about where I'm living, my clothes, food, or even my health. The Baron takes care of all that. All I do in return is work for him."
She paused then, looking up at him from where she sat on one of the stone benches. "Why are you afraid of going unnoticed?"
