Medieval and Renaissance instruments. You see, For my Fantasy-parody comga, I was thinking a lot about their income. Let's face it, killing monsters and saving the world, usually just gives you a heart-warmed 'thank you', and no money to spend on food, clothes, weapon upgrades, etc. So, other than picking the odd-job, I figured, why don't they play some music? The idea came to me a few months ago through two things:
- A Guild I'm a part of titled 'The Bard's Guild' which specialties are Music and Adventuring. You guys may not realize it, but you're really giving me inspriation! >.>
-Playing the hilarious video game 'The Bard's Tale'. Sure, it may be hard, but the music and humour kicks a**.
So, that choice has been decided. Great, dandy. I left that alone for a little bit not even studying it further. Now, for the past two months or so, I've gotten extremely addicted to the music from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. It really has good ol' fashion music. I flipped through the
the little book that came with it and loe and behold, there were tons of instruments that I have never heard of! Gemshorn, Hurdy Gurdy, Crumhorn... what in the world? Suddenly, my life got more complicated. Medieval music was more than just basic flutes and lutes. So, my journey started. I had tons of info right there... except for, I didn't read Japanese. >.>
So, started my journey on google. Luckily, it wasn't as complicated as I thought. I found a dandy little site that contained quite an amount of funny little instruments along with their history and some wavs to go with it. You'd think I wouldn't need to research all this, since comics don't make noises, but oddly enough, I do. I want to know the difference between the noise of a Gemshorn and an Ocarina. Especially since I have at least seven people who are going to be playing an instrument. I also didn't realize the sice of some of these babies. I was going to get someone to play a Serpent, until I realized the size of one. Can you believe lugging around an instrument that's could be between half, or taller than you. If it was your proffesion, sure, but when you're also carrying a large axe and tons of body armour, that could be pretty hard.
So, now I have a basic idea of some of the insturments... now... who's going to play what? Believe it or not, I'm having huge troubles in figuring that out. >.>
So far, I know that...
Kale will have a Lute, just like I planned before. He played the guitar in his world, so this is the next closest thing.
Lyn shall most likely get a pan pipe or an ocarina. Pretty small, and cheerful sound. Not to mention a wind instrument. (Lyn's element is wind)
Annalai shall most likely get a wind instrument as well. Whether it be a shell ocarina from her mother, or a gemshorn from her father, is not yet known.
Leir is getting a tamborine and a drum of some sort (most likely a daf). Not to mention that she can also sing. Though she refuses to believe so.
Everyone else is unknown at the moment, though I want someone to play a Rebe, Shawm, Organetto, and a Sacbut. We'll see....
