Take time to fish out the guppies.
Dreams (exchange 17)

Jaelin briefly listened to the sounds inside the house before turning back to her.

"I have been as well as I could be under the circumstances. We have not had the time to ask questions and answer each other. I have a good many questions that I fear would take us into the night. Are you certain you cannot find or conjure the means to be away from the baron? Please, if I can help you escape, at least for now, let me know what it is and I will do it."

"The only thing I can think of is if you could somehow prevent one of your coworkers from delivering our food tomorrow. Then I would have an excuse to go to the market... if not, I go every other day in the mornings..."

She was curious about what sort of questions he wanted to ask her. No one ever wanted to talk to her. Most of the time she was invisable. And that alone led her to knowing more than a slave had any rights to know. When she had been twelve the Baron had a wife. Her son was only five and learning to read. Amara was in charge of taking care of the boy after his lessons and in turn had learned to read herself. There were few people, even in maid positions, who could read.

But she kept her skills hidden from the Baron. She was better off not giving him more things to exploit about her. He certainly would have loved to boast about how his beautiful slave girl was also smart, though.
