POEM 28 - Changing the Subject
Everytime I say those three words,
You hit me four times,
Like a weird reaction you have,
Can you hear the church-bell chimes?
I now walk through the night,
All alone,
You are no longer texting me,
Over the phone,
You changed the subject,
One too many times,
I sit in the churchyard,
The bell above chimes,
There's screaming in my head,
Something's gone wrong,
But I can't quite place what it is,
But I know it's been there all along,
It tells me to forget you,
To push you out of my mind,
But I can't because you've left,
A deep carving behind,
I look to the sky,
With hope and thought,
Wondering if to listen to this voice,
Or count is as naught,
But the clouds don't help,
They just turn dark,
They begin to fall rapidly,
And dogs nearby bark,
I look back down at my phone,
Protecting it from the rain,
Thinking about your artifical love for me,
And of it's big stain,
I place it in my pocket,
And stand up once more,
Looking at the gravestones,
Remembering Poe's "Lenore",
I look down to my feet,
And ask myself a question,
"Why did you run away?
Why oh why did you run?"
But the answer to this question,
No matter how much I may pleed,
Will never really enter my mind,
Not even if it would need,
So I look back up and walk among,
The gravestones and the dead,
Thinking of my life and theirs,
Comparing them in my head,
Some were good,
Some were bad,
But mostly all of them,
Were sad,
So this is my new home,
Among the only people who understand,
And some day in the future,
I'll join them soon if I can...
