Ah, the Justice League, what is there to not like about a group of superheroes who team up to help save the world. And they're directly controllable in the comfort of my living room?! There is nothing I don't like about these past two sentences! Yet how is it that the game can be as disappointing as it is?
If you've played X-men Legends, you've played Justice League Heroes. If you haven't played X-men Legends, it's a 3/4 angle action/beat-em-up in which you can control your favorite X-men. Justice League Heroes is that, only instead of x-men, you control the Justice League. Who can resist beating up robots as Superman, Batman, or the Green Lantern? After going through a couple of stages, anyone could.
We'll start on the positives. JLH is really fun to play multiplayer. And uh...the powers of each of the characters are all pretty different, making there be some variety. Checkpoints are dotted about the level in good locations, so dying is never too frustrating. That about covers it.
Now for the negatives: Character balance is way out of whack. I realize that Superman is the most powerful of them all, but I'd like to feel I'm contributing when somebody else is playing as Superman and I'm not. And then the powers are also not created equal. Each hero has only one really useful power. The usefulness of many of the characters are dependent on their best skill. Green Lantern and his Hammer are god-like, while Batman and his flash grenades are pathetic by comparison.
And then you can't choose your characters either. The game whisks you through the story mode and forces you to be one of two characters. This is fine when you like both of the characters, but when you get to combinations that you hate, your stuck for the level.
Imperfect? Yes, JLH is very imperfect. A good playthrough? It's worth a rent if you have somebody else to play with. Just isn't good enough to justify being owned.
