Adventure #5 The Ducks of Summer.
Tara Storm woke up early that morning. The air was starting to get colder. Summer was indeed over in the land of Gaia. The leaves on the trees were changing colors. Soon winter would arrive and with it bring snow. Tara couldn't wait to show Kali and Gwee how to build snowmen and make snow angels. Tara imagined the three of them having a snowball fight and then going inside and making hot chocolate while watching the fire.
Of course, things don't always go as planned.
Tara got up and started making breakfast. Kali woke up before Gwee and walked over to Tara who was standing at the stove.
"MOMMY!" Kali yelled in her adorable little voice, than gave a little quack.
"Awww...Hi my Kali. Go wake up your sister, the eggs are almost done." Tara said, smiling brightly. She was so happy with the family that had come to be. She wouldn't have it any other way now.
The three of them enjoyed a nice breakfast before heading outside. Nearly everyday since Kali had come into Tara's life in the spring, they had gone to pond to fly with the ducks. Kali had lived with the ducks, until a little girl took her away. Kali then spent the following fall and winter wandering the streets, until Tara found her and took her in. Tara gave Kali a pair of Fairy wings so Kali could fly with her duck friends. To this day Kali believed she was a duck.
Kali started flying ahead of Tara and Gwee. She was very excited to see her duck friends. When she got to the pond she fell down to the ground and gave out a cry of pain.
"What's wrong Kail?" Gwee said flying as quick as she could over to Kali, with Tara running behind her.
"THE DUCKS ARE GONE!" Kali screamed.
"They must've flown south for the winter," Tara said, looking around at the pond.
"WHAT?" Kali sounded hurt, "Why didn't they tell me about this?"
"It's instinct Kali. Ducks just know when to fly south. I don't think they talk about it."
"BUT I DIDN'T KNOW! I'M A DUCK TOO!" Kali cried.
"But Kali...you aren't really a duck..." Tara started to say.
"YES I AM! I AM FLYING SOUTH TO PROVE IT!" Kali started to fly away as Tara screamed at her to stop. "I have to do this Mommy...I have to know the truth." Tara looked at the sadness in Kali's eyes and knew that there was nothing she could do to stop her. Kali turned her back to Tara and flew off into the morning sky.
"Gwee, go with your sister, make sure she stays safe" Tara said sadly.
"Ok Mommy. I'll make sure she is safe. I love you!" Gwee said flying off after Kali.
"I LOVE YOU BOTH!" Tara yelled at the two of them, letting the tears fall down her face. "Please...just come back home someday" Tara said, more to herself than anything. "Just come back home."
