Darkness surrounds me

An absence of light

A place of refuge to contemplate my musings on the world

What do you do when your world caves in

And the shovel has broken

And your mind has stopped working

The soul remains and nourished the spirit within

In the dark you can make plans on a grand scale

A dramatic resurgence of the soul

Confidence surges through your veins

You are ready to take on the world

And build a brighter future

But no sooner has the idea popped into your mind

Than the doubts begin

Can you carry off this grand gesture

And astonish and amaze those around you

Filling with pride those around you

All the groundwork providing a firm foundation to build on

But the pressure is all too great

Better off simply dreaming in the dark

Let the world get by without you

I will lie in the darkness close by the fire

Which will comfort my soul

As my body slowly fades away

And all the dreams have turned to dust

A trail of broken dreams lies behind me

Laying next to a thousand broken hearts

A trail of destruction leaves its mark

Even when you build nothing of your own

The destruction is there for all to see

Broken bones and hot ashes

Mark the spot where hope once flourished

Let the burial begin
