The war had continued to rage on, though the leader of the human opposition remained the same. Later reconnaissance found her to possess a powerful relic of sorts from her deity, giving her immense power and a timeless body...she never aged a day with possession of the item. Another few decades passed and the war was at a standstill. Seeking to gain an upper hand, the now General searched for ancient relics of power in the nearby ruins. Although the cover mission was to set traps for the oncoming forces it was well known to the higher ranking officers that they wouldn't do much damage if any.
Upon coming to one temple in particular Matthew had to think about his mission...this one seemed different than the ones they ransacked earlier and even his bravest troops wouldn't go near it for the life of them. So he entered alone, curious as to what lay inside. Upon heading through a stretch of hallways he finally entered a large empty room, in the center sat a pedestal with a sword and some sort of shrine on it. Once he touched the sword the purple flames came to life, spiraling up his arm and then vanished. Though peculiar Matthew thought nothing more of it. He removed the sword to examine the blade, testing it out he soon found that it was almost as if it were made for him. Opting to keep it for himself he stuck it in place of his sword, handing the old one to one of his friends who had been admiring it recently. And so began the story of Mura's slow possession over Matthew.
It was not long after that incident that Matthew finally met Yohfa, truly an awe inspiring warrior though she would have been nothing but dirt by this time if not for the relic. In the final fated battle of both armies, Matthew had set an ambush up for the woman. Blocking off all roads but the one that led through dense forest to a rocky canyon he set his men laying in wait in the woods and at the tops of the canyon walls. As they all jumped out upon her soldiers Matthew charged, loosing himself for a moment to the sword. He ran straight through a small group of human warriors, a few quick flashes of light as he did. As soon as he finished making his way through them they all fell.
Upon reaching Yohfa he regained himself however, the sword wishing to test his power and resolve. The paladin swung her spear at him, the incubus narrowly avoiding as he came to his senses. A grueling battle took place in which neither general was the victor but the paladin was forced to retreat. It had turned out that during the battle her relic was shattered by Murasama. She gave up the fight, knowing that she'd be little match for the demon armies now and that she would soon start aging again. The battle had been won and Matthew had fulfilled his duty.
