The Trials and Tribulations of Gender Neutral Man (and co.)

Designing a World-The Classes and a bit on the Pantheon
Well, I think I have most of the races I want in this world (considering changelings from Eberron, most likely going to be a no. Might be in the world though). Now then, onto classes. As a bit of a reminder, the classes are from the Player's Handbook as well as Oriental Adventures. The classes are: Barbarian, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Monk, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer, Wizard, Shaman, and Sohei. Bard, if you'll recall, was tentative. It's going to be included, and will probably serve behind the scenes. I'm thinking a network of elite spies (secret agent bards? stealth bards? I like the sound of that) or else as journalists and what not (give them a reason to travel and a way to make money other than performing).
Now then, the fighter, rogue, and cleric are generic enough that they can be found anywhere. I see no reason to restrict arcane classes either, so Wizards and Sorcerers are both in. This leaves the Barbarian, Druid, Monk, Ranger, Shaman, and Sohei.
The Shamans actually came in after the Orcs (or made it so I would put the Orcs in, I can't really recall), so they were just put in so the Warcraft fan inside me could be happy. The Barbarian serves for the more unrefined fighters, and could easily fit with the Orcs, Nezumi, Shinomen Naga, and various other races. They're easy enough to put in, and thus, the Barbarian is in.
I had to have the monks in one way or another. I didn't care what kind of disbelief I would have to suspend, the monks had to be in. Well then, the dwarves are always described as being a disciplined race. So, why not make them a religious disciplined race. And then I like the Sohei better than I like the Paladin (Less fanatical). The idea of a religious berserker makes me all tingly inside, definitely more tingly than the lawful good idiot herald of justice that I always see Paladins played as.
The Druid and Ranger were easy to force in. Seeing as how this world is going to have very large, expansive wilderness areas (forests, fields, caves, etc.), they were only natural. The wilderness is going to be separated enough from most societies (Naturalistic Dragon Worshipping tribe maybe?) to allow them to be in this, and I'm definitely going to be looking towards the Eberron campaign setting with how they handle the Druid orders (feats that give the Druid abilities).
Now then, I'll be covering the pantheon a lot more in depth in a couple of weeks, but this week I'm going to give a very basic overview of it. It's going to be polytheistic and the Gods are going to be a very large part of the world. They wander the world, assisting people (or killing them, assuming they're into that kind of thing), and have monasteries and churches set up for them. I won't mention just what specific things they govern, but there will be 14 of them, and I'll be covering them in depth in a couple of weeks. Might have a bit of an interlude next week, in which I actually design a game mechanic, but might not. I'm a busy guy. Until next time.
