No I am not making changes to the journal even though I haven't written in it in a while. I am however wanting to talk about how we react to making changes in our every day lives.
As I am sure even the youngest of you has noticed by now, we as a nation are having to make changes. If you haven't already you will be doing it very shortly.
I am experiencing a ton of changes here lately and will continue to have them heaped upon my either by myself, others, or just plain circumstance. Its just the way it is.
I have had to change everything from my shopping habits to personal habits, to plans I have made for the future. Not only are costs so high that things we have concidered doing become either forgotten or changed beyound recognition but the country and the people in it are changing. Maybe you haven't noticed but people are just getting cranky. Its not pleasant at all sometimes. If you haven't realized this before now you just have been keeping yourself hidden into your own little world. People in the store are cranky because of prices. People at the gas station also because of prices. People at work and at school are cranky because things are just not working out like they thought they would and they just plain aren't getting what they wanted. We could all use a dose of reality.
Yes! I said we could all use a dose of reality! We are the only country in this world that operates this way. We are the only country in the world that behaves this way. And we are a cranky country. For those of you reading this that are not from the USA.. I appoligize because I am talking about the USA. If American's would take a look at the rest of the world they might just learn something. Sure we live in a great country but we also live in a very wasteful country. In other countries people often take bikes, buses, trains or walk to work. They do the same for shopping. They don't have tons of junk in their homes. The don't feel the need to have little things all over every surface of their house. They dont feel the need to throw out something because it is broken because they get it fixed. In America, if a person were to open a fix-it shop they would go broke because in America if we break something we throw it away and buy another one. This is something else that makes us cranky. But it is our own fault.
There are small lessons to be learned and big ones too from other countries. When I lived in England it seemed to me that most everyone I met was happy. Mostly because they seemed to find the good in every day. No matter what was going on in their lives thy looked for something good in it. Maybe it was just the people I met but I did meet a lot of people. Of course there was your odd grumpy person but usually it was because they were ill or aged. But even a grumpy person in those conditions were rare for me to run into.
The point is we dont have to be grumpy just because our lives are changing. We can look for the good in each day and celebrate that thing. No matter how small it is. I knew a guy who just got excited when he found a good parking space. That was always a bright spot in his day. Making changings or having changes doesn't have to be a bad thing. Its what we make it. Even if we don't like the change if we wait long enough we are sure to find out where that will take us. And if we watch it is usually to a better place in our lives.
