Monday Update.. it'sa me... :ninja:
still a little tired, but full speed ahead?
If anyone is noticing my lack of commentary about Gaia itself recently... this is because I'm generally unhappy with the turn the site seems to be taking in several ways. It's annoying and depressing and because of it I seem to care less and less about Gaia the company and Gaia the site and keep coming back only to play with dressing up my avatar and touch bases with my friends. At the moment, I don't even feel it's worth ranting about. They're no longer worth the emotional expenditure it would take to actually get upset about it. ^_^

Oh, but as a side note, I won't be helping keep the SF sticky up to date. As a tip for those who'd like to see updates made there, I suggest getting hold of someone you know who will be at one of the cons Gaia will be attending this year (not me, someone else), and get them to ask for an answer to the issue you'd like to see added to the thread at the con. If you can get an answer out of them, it'll be a lot easier to get the issue added to the thread. ^-^ And cons are one of the more likely places where they sometimes do answer things like that.

In other news... I need to update my profile, but I'll have to find time for that when I'm at home since editing my profile from ie on my work computer doesn't work too well. I do hope to get to it sometime this week. I'll give a brief overview here though...

I haven't read a lot of books in the last couple of weeks because my spare time that would normally be spent reading has been spent playing games on my DS instead. I'm concentrating on 3 main games at the moment... - Lunar Dragon Song, Animal Crossing, and Pokemon Diamond. I'll be starting Children of Mana in the near future too though. If anyone in here plays Pokemon or Mario Kart or FFIII, or AC, you should poke me so we can trade friend codes. ^-^

While I haven't been reading books, I -have- been reading webcomics. I'd gotten behind on the ones that I read, not having looked for many months, so I decided to catch up... then Rei gave me some new ones to look at too. I'm currently caught up on (with my preferred ones at the top):

AppleGeeks
Girl Genius (this one isn't a true webcomic, but it's still online, and I <3 it.)
VG Cats
Looking for Group
Snafu
Now, Snafu actually hosts several comics and the Snafu comic is only one of them. So I caught up on not only Snafu, but all 9 of the comics that are hosted on the same site. Including:
Power Puff Girls (This being the only one I'd actually read some previously.)
Ever After Another something with the name Ever After that I like. This one doesn't have very many comics up yet, but it looks interesting.
Grim Tales (By the same artist that does PPG.)
Titan Sphere Really like this one too.
Invader Zim xD; It's Zim!
And several others which I didn't like as much, but were okay, so I won't link them since they can all be reached via the first Snafu comics link or any of these others. whee

I haven't played on my Wii much yet because since all I have is Wii sports, it'd be more fun to play with a friend rather than on my own, and I've yet to get anyone to come over to play it with me.

On the Con front, with Fanime a month away, things are chaotic as usual, but Panels are decently in hand. All the listings are up on the website, and I just have a few more lists to compile and information to disseminate before con time. I'm still marvelling a bit that I'm somehow pulling this off, but it seems to be going alright.

On a physical health level, since some people worry about me... I'm managing to maintain myself. Although I felt as if I were getting sick that one week, I never actually came down with anything more than the mildest of symptoms. So, aside from battling off a migraine yesterday I've been maintaining myself adequately despite sometimes getting little sleep, little food, etc. I'm eating enough and sleeping enough.

And that's it for now. Back to work with me. ^-^

omfg Invader Zim comic!! heart

Kavaisthebest. XD jk. It's nice to hear from you! heart

I find myself doing the same thing when I'm on Gaia. It's not as fun as it use to be. I think this can be due to my busy RL schedule and the fact that I rarely Q&A anymore. If I Q&A I'm usually in there for hours. XD <3 I would devote my time fully to it.

Other than that, it's boring without the right incentives to come. Maybe when I have another break I'll be more active (in 3 weeks). Aw~

Hope work is going well. :"3 I'm sorry about the migraine! One day I had to walk my friend home from school because of a migraine. I felt bad for him. It's very debilitating.

I suppose all I can suggest is keeping active. Even if it is just a walk around the block. Any kind of activity is good for you (when you don't have a migraine of course! (: ).

I'd like to visit Q&A now and then and such Sevi, but... I can't work up the motivation for it. Even today, I log in, look at the latest announcement and see how they're cheerfully making a proclamation that they peeped in dressing rooms at department stores, etc... and I don't know... I know it's a joke, but I don't find it funny. Maybe it's because this isn't a 'Liam did this' or 'Ian did that' but 'we' which makes it seem like the real people, the admins, went out and broke the law and peeped in dressing rooms, and had fun with it.

It's like... having gone perhaps a bit too far in the direction of Neopets with the DC, non-allowance naked avatars and enforcement of such, and other similar things... they're now determined to take it to extremes in the other direction to prove they're not a kids site.

All the while, it being clear, that their top priority is to make more $$.

I'm just not impressed. More than that, I'm disappointed.

Oh yes... and they're just now getting to fixing bugs that are fairly easy to fix but which I reported back when I was still a moderator.... I reported these nearly a year ago.

[/rant] and [/end first half of comment because my comment was too long... xD; ]

Sevi: Anyways.... if you like Invader Zim, Zim has cameos also in a couple of the other Snafu comics... um... PPG I think, and... Grim maybe... *scratches head* can't remember... read them all too close together. xD;

Oh, and we now have to add
Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire to the list of web comics I like, read, and am up to date on. And Rei... I read all of this one from beginning to current in one day. Spooty: I have one more that someone else recommended to check out, then I'll check out those ones too. xD

I'm low on sleep again, having got a little less than 4 hours, but I'm cheerful this morning. It'll be a fine day.

Haha Kava. xd

It's ridiculous when the admins act like children in the announcements. It's as if they're babying us. I don't care for reading the newsletters anymore, just skimming through it. Their strange humor is getting the best of them.

And you're right, they do allow for a certain dichotomy between their childish/all-in-good-fun announcements ("OMG!! We have new MONTHLY COLLECTABLES! Isn't that exciting??!") and their very strange sexual humor (such as the dressing room or the weekly comic that showed "Ron Bruise" in bed with that alien-thing). I'm sure they want to broaden their age group from their normal tenagers-adults to kids-tweens. I really don't understand why they can't announce certain things with an ounce of dignity. Even early teenagers wouldn't care for this n00bish way to proclaim an announcement.

And if being in character is another excuse for acting like kids while saying something, they should do it with some form of consistency rather than some hyper-ADD kid. At least stay within character limitations and not having them bounce off the walls for one reason or another.

Heh, I know someone who saw a glitch, fixed the coding, and sent it to one of the devs. Still, they haven't fixed it. ;P But I really don't know how they handle the amount of spam they do in accordance with actual important mail. I know there have been glitches that haven't been fixed in 1-2 years (including the customize me glitch) but at the same time are they really that important? There is a workaround for the customize me glitch, so are bugs really important if users find a solution for it? For now no, but it would be great if it were fixed! @___@; Though I'm sure there are several other glitches that haven't been fixed which only goes back to how important those glitches are.

But now that Arty is gone we'll have to find someone else to update the bugs glitch list. sad I say before the admins go BETA with Gaia, they should have the whole site organized so everything can be reported well and with swift action. This is a general picture of what I want so it's not an actual plan. xd But maybe I like to be idealistic that way. <3

I think the site also has to have a way to communicate well with each other (duh). Today, communication with the admins has increased since late 2005 (excluding early 2003, late 03-05 had less admin interaction). I would say 2005 was the worst year for Gaia. Maybe I'm wrong? There just needs to be a way to reduce spam and increase productive communication. Again, I don't know how to do this. It would be nice though, right? (:

Maybe I'll broaden my analysis later. XD I'd sure love to make a thread in SF about having the characters STAY in character and not go on a spastic or humiliating performance. mkay.

The Invade Zim comic is great! But I see the artists hasn't updated in a year. I'm not sure if she is going to update any time soon. It seems like she's going after a pretty intense schooling. So I understand her pain (but not as bad as I would like to say. heh). Thanks for the recommendations!

And you avy looks way cute. whee

*snuggles Sevi* For the record, the bug I was talking about, I reported as a moderator. Mods have a somewhat different way of reporting things that's not available to users.

Furthermore, it's not a terribly important bug, but the longer they've left it to fix, the more time-consuming it gets for them to fix it. *shrugs* I could say more, but I probably shouldn't. xD;

I agree with you about the NPC's. Actually, thinking about that announcement from a role-playing perspective, it's completely out of character for Rina, and not really in accordance with any of the other NPC characters either.

Yeah, the PPG comic is on hold until Grim is done, because it's the same artist doing both. You're welcome and thank you? xd

Oh, and I'm adding another gripe... *sigh* I'm getting tired of their new style of art. The entire site grew up around and is based around the CHIBI avatars. The rest of the art on the site no longer reflects this. =/ There's nothing chibi at all about the new rotating banner art. Nor do they depict any of the NPC's... I'm guessing they're meant to depict users instead, but they look -nothing- like the avatars... so.. ><;;

It seems to me like all the NPC characters are acting the same. The only exception I could think of is Leon. :/

That is interesting about mods reporting bugs. Thanks for the info! :"3

I like the banner but the art is getting a bit more...different? The weekly comics really get to me sometimes in term of their art. Sometimes it's cute and funny (the fishing bot was a good one). But also inconsistent (which is what the admins want, I assume? With the beard contest? 1st: How can Peyo grow a STUBBLE let alone a full grown beard? Hormone imbalance?? XD; ) But the weekly comics aren't suppose to be too serious. But...just seems rather childish sometimes.

That's not exactly a secret. Why do you think everyone tries to report things to moderators anyways? In any case... it's obviously not really any more effective. xD; I mean, look how long it still takes them to get to it. User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Yeah...the moderators getting lazy or turning against their users always ends up happening. Look at the Blackjack game! It used to be a LOT easier, before they rigged it to give out less winnings stare

Um... Rei.. what are you talking about? O_o

Moderators have no control over the flash games. That'd be the administrators and developers.

And honestly, most of the moderators are not lazy, nor against the users. Nothing is universal, of course... there are always exceptions.

Nor is the lack of bug fixes anything to do with the moderators. Again, that's the realm of the developers and admins. ^^
