Dreams (exchange 4)
Despite his expectations, Jaelin was welcomed into the home quite graciously by the manor's butler. He refused to shed his thin, plain tan coat until his audience with the baron. The butler nodded and led him into the heart of the mansion to a small, furnished room for no apparent reason and was instructed to seat himself. When the man had left, Jaelin took a good look around the room, taking in all the wonderously crafted decorations and furniture. Heavens, this room alone must be worth more than my entire house.
The short, round baron soon arrived to greet him personally and joined him in a chair under the silver chandelier. It was too late to run for his life now.
"I am sure you are wondering why I have invited you here," the fat little man said in a voice that seemed too high-pitched to belong to him. "I assure you I will not chastise you or give you a secret beating for your... ill performances lately." Ill performances? I could't make it here in less than a half an hour without his blasted orders, let alone with them! Jaelin's fists clenched behind his back. But he maintained his composure for now. The fat man could somehow feel the tension growing in the thick air between them and his face began to sparkle with sweat. "I, erm... I have called for food and wine to be brought, young tradesman.... Now where has that bloody girl gotten to? Maid! Maid, I call for you!" If the baron had screeched any louder, Jaelin might have lost his hearing.
"Sorry, Sir, I just returned from the market." Amara apologized, in the room and curtsying with the tray in her hand before he could say maid a third time. She looked timidly up at his company but didn't recognize him right away. He was much dirties in person than he was in his dreams.
She brought the tray to the small table, placing it down with natural grace. Standing, she poured the two men wine and then took a step back. "Is there anything else you'll be needing, Sir?" Her voice had a very faint, hard to place accent to it.
