We all walked onward, unknowing of what was behind us and what had happened to Raven and Eyani. We had all just hoped we'd meet them somewhere along our journey...


I shivered. The dawn of the cold season was upon us in this, the lower of the world. Frost began to replace the morning dew, and everywhere leaves fell from trees with every footstep we made. The ground was beginning to become cold and hard and the only warmth we had was the hope of finally reaching a village. After traveling for days, we had found nothing and began to question if we even were headed in the right direction. My thoughts shifted to my skin, as in my human form, I was not protected by the warm fur I would have normally had on this unforgivingly cold night. The only reason that I was still awake was for the purpose of lookout; a job commonly tasked with someone when the others really didnt want to do it. but, both Lok and Ice shivered in their sleep. I dared not wake them as for fear of jump-starting their heart too fast, ending in their death. At least they both had blankets, while I stood here in the frozen air, slowly matcing my body temperature with that around me.

In my fear of frostbite, I began to run around, keeping my internal body temperature high and warm. This worked for about 6 miniutes when the cold won over me and I once again sat on the frozen, wet ground. I leaned up aginst a tree and stared up at the bleak night sky. Clear, starry, crisp. And in this moment of cool tranquility, I had been startled by the slight noise of footsteps crunching already crisped and dead leaves. Without hesitation, I drew the blue blade the cast it's heaenly glow upon the bleak ground. Suddenly a tall man, not a head over me, stepped out from shadows. He had long ears, signifying his elvish descent, but he was nothing like Hino; his skin the darker brown compared to Hino's silky white. His hair was a deep blue and he wore loose baggy pants, red body armor over black chain-mail. He walked to me in a casual manor, so I lowered my sword; only to meet the edge of his crossbow shoved closely aginst my face. "That sword you carry..." he said in a voice that sounded much older than he looked, "where did you find it?"

I heaved my sword aginst the bottom of the crossbow as he fired, knowking three srrows into the tree behind me. "Like it?" he asked. "Its a repeater crossbow, capable of fireing at least three shots at once. Come, taste them!" He shouted firing several more shots at me. As one pierced my side, I felt the sharp burn of the pure silver piercing my flesh and screamed in pain, kneeling on the hard ground. He walked over to me and lowered the crossbow to my face, saying, "Oh foolish embassary of the wolves. How little you know. If you cant even eliminate me, what chances do you have of destroying the evil of this world?" I looked up at him in somewhat admiration and somewhat in disgust. "Shut up!" I yelled back at him. "I dont care what you say, Drance will pay for the crimes he has committed! Aginst me, aginst my friends, and aginst this whole world!" He lowered the crossbow and looked at me intensly, to see if my motives were truthful. "I came to this new world of warmth and serenity because I thought there would be peace here. Instead, I have been charged now with the saving of this land? This burden, placed upon me, was not my choice! Everyone wants to take it away from me!" I looked the ground, the tears in my eyes welling. "I never wanted this. All I wanted was to save people from that icy prison, and I wasnt even able to save ten of them...not even Hino...not even..."

"Stop" He said. he lifted up my head and looked me sternly in the eye, the way someone would look at their dog after it had done something wrong and was sulking, "I understand that you didnt accept this punishment. You are the embassary of the wolves, there is nothing in this world or the next that is going to change that. Even upon your death, the sword will remain with you. You are your races last hope. So you see, Kalt, while you may not have wanted this, it is your race of lycans that wishes for you to save this land. Drance will grow stronger, believe that. He will eventually cause much suffering in his search for you and the sword that you bear, for you see Kalt, he is the embodiment of evil for this world. He will stop at nothing to kill you and that lust for your blood will eventually drive him deep into the pitless well of insanity. He will break and his evil shall flood out upon the world." He let go and I stood up removing the arrow from my side. "Kalt. I did not think your ready for this task, however, you have shown me that you can become stronger and that there is a chance that you can defeat Drance." He then turned around and began to walk away. Once again, he vanished into the shadows and he ceased to exist in body, but a voice lingered on. "Call me if you need me. My name is Lerion. Take care not to forget it." Then his voice vanished.

I ran back to camp and realized that the sun had began to rise. Lok and Ice were still asleep and for some reason, my wound had healed. "Clever." I said aloud."You got some heaving skills." I kicked ice in the chest to wake him up."Hey! I was sleeping!" He yelled out at me. Lok, as a human, apparently wasnt a very good lisitner; his snoring covered the yells. "Your turn to look out, Im bushed." I grabbed the blanked and ploped down on the warm ground. The feel of warmpth all around me on a cold winter's night soothed me and instantly, I relaxed and slept.
