The Last Hope
Characters: Jennife Bray-the wife of Allan Bray, a good friend of Katie Williams, Allan Bray- the husband of Jennifer Bray, a good friend of Barandon Holfalwitz, Brandon Holfalwitz- a friend of Allan and Jennifer, meets Katie Williams at a party, Katie Williams- a fashion chief editor, meets Brandon at a party
Katie Williams, a shy, mousy girl, was walking to her office at Vogue magazine. She was the chief editor. When she had set her brief case down and had sat down she riffled through her messages. One was from Jennifer Bray, a friend that runs Pompeo, an Italian Restaurant, it read "Call me at the restautant. I have a party I am going to and I would like you to come with me." Katie pulled out her cell phone and punched the speed dial number and pressed send. THe phone wrang twice and then a man's voice said "Pompeo, how may I help you?" Katie said "Frank, I need to talk to Mrs. Bray." Frank said "OK, let me transfer you to her office." There was a pause and then a female voice said "Hi, this is Jennifer Bray." Katie said "Hi Jen, this is Katie." Jennifer said "Oh, hi Katie. You got my message?" Katie said "Yes, I did. I will go to the party with you." Jennifer said "This party is black tie, you also have to have a date." Katie said 'I don't have a boyfriend or even a good guy friend." Jennifer laughed and said 'I have a guy for you, he is sweet." Katie said "I just want to go as friends." Jennifer said "I will pick you up in 30 minutes to go shopping." Katie said "Alright, see you then." They hung up and then Katie went to talk to her assistant.
Thirty minutes later Katie walked out and stopped on the steps outside. She saw a limo pull up and Jennifer stuck her head out the door. She said "Come on, we don't have long." Katie walked over, got in and they drove off. She said "Where are we going?" Jennifer said "We are going to 5th avenue, look at all the shops and then eat at my place. Finally we will go to my apartment adn get ready." Katie said "Alright, I can't wait."
A few hours later Katie and Jennifer were heading into Vera Vang. They looke around for a few minutes. Katie walked over to the middle rack and instantly spotted the dress she was going to wear. It was made of black silk and lace with a high neckline and the back was cut down to her waits and it also had long sleeved and a train. Jennifer walked over holding another dress. It was short, made of yellow velvet and it had no sleeve, tight middle and full skirt. She took a look at the dress and said "That one is great, now let us look for accessories."
A few minutes later katie walked over to the shoe rack having already picked out a neclace that was a 2 inch thick choker of diamonds and had a silver chain going down the back ending in a large diamond and a pair of matching earrings. She looked at a few pairs and then spotted a pair of black high heels with a diamond strap across the front and a strap that went around the ankle and had a diamond buckle. She put all her stuff on the counter and the woman wrang them up.
Jennifer put a pai for yellow high heels with gold flowers on them, a pair of gold earrings and necklace on the counter beside hers and said "I will pay." Then she handed the woman her credit card. After she signed the recietthey walked out and drove to Pompeo.
A few hours later they were sitting at Jennifer's house. Jennifer had made some tea and they sat drinking it. Katie put her cup down and said "Should we be getting dressed?" Jennifer looked at the clock and said "I didn't know it was that late." She got up, streached and then walked into the bathroom. They got dressed, put on their make up and jewelry. Jennife did her shoulder length, blond, strait hair in a bun and Katie did her waist length, brown, strait hair in a braid and then put it up in a bun. They finished just in time because the door bell rang. Jenny walked to the door and opened the door.
Two men were standing there. Thye were both tall, muscular amd very skinny, but one had short, trait blond hair and the other had a strait, black, mullet style hair cut. Bothe were wearing tuxedos with black ties. The black haired one said "Jenny, honey. We need to be leaving." Jenny said "Katie Williams, this is Allan my husband and Brandon Holfalwitz, your date." Katie looked at him and said "Nice to meet you" Brandon said "You are very beautiful, evern more beautiful than what Jennifer has said about you." Katie said "Thank you, I don't know how to repay you." Brandon said "You can repay me by going as my date to the party." Katie nodded and they walked out to the limo. They go in and then drove tothe hotel.
They walked into the ballroom and started to mingle. Brandon put his hand on the small of her back and let her to the puch table. An old man looked up to see them and said "You look like a great couple, are you married?" Katie looked flustered and gasped. Brandon said "We are not marriend and neither are w a couple." The old mansaid "Oh, I saw the romantic touch and I thought." He shrugged and they walked away. Brandon said "I am so sorry for that man." Katie poured herself a drink and then they sat down.
On the dance floor Jennifer and Allan were dancing and talking. Allan glanched at the tables and laughed. Jennifer said "WHat are you laughing at?" Allan said "Brandon and Katie are talking, well randon is doing most of the talking." Jenny looked over and said "He can do that. Do you think they will hit it off?" Allan said "I don't know, but it is still early." Jennifer said "Do you want to go see what they are talking about?" Allan said "Leave them alone." Then they put their arms around each other and slow danced.
Over at the tables Brandon was aying "Would you like to meet me at Jeny's resautant at 12?" Katie bit her lip and said "I will get back to you on that." Then she go up and walked through the dancers, passing right by Jennifer and Allan, into the bathroom. Jennifer detached herself from Allan and went after her.
She spotted Katie standing in front of the mirror. Jennifer said "What's wrong, did he say something bad to you?" Katie said "I am sorry. He is so sweet. He wants to have lunch with me." Jennifer said "Why is that bad?" Katie said "Nothing. He is the only guy to like me for me. I haven't felt this way since I got the divorce." Jennifer said "I didn't know you had been married." Katie said "Yes, the man was a creep but I don't want to talk about it." Jennifer said "You need to get back in the game. Brandon is, just as you said, sweet. Give him a chance, if not for you, for him." Katie sighed and said "I will, let's go out." Jennifer and Katie walked out arm in arm. Allan and Brandon were sitting at the table Katie had just vacated a few minutes earlier. Brandon got up, walked over to the girls and said "I am sorry Katie, did I say something wrong?" Katie said "No, I just had to go to the bathroom." Brandon said "What is your answer about lunch tomorrow?" Katie said "Sure, but I might be a few minutes late." Brandon said "Alright, want to dance?" Katie nodded and the went to dance." Jennifer said "They will hopefully make a great couple. Did you know that Katie had a husband?" Allan said "No way, she is so young." Jennifer said "I am only a year older and I happen to be 24." Allan said "I didn't mean it like that. Wouldn' you get married when you are 40?" Jennifer said "I would but not let us just sit and watch. Jennifer sat down and then they watched them.
A few hours later they were down the stairs to the waiting limo. As soon as they were all in the limo started moving. Jennifer said "So what did you two talk about?" Katie said "Nothing, I just danced with Brandon." Brandon laughed and said "Leave her alone, she just met me." Katie blushed and they spent the rest of the trip talking about other things.
The next day Katie put on a pair of jeans, a vintage the Doors tee and a black pinstripe suite jacket and then put on a pair of tennis and walked out the door. She reached the office a few minutes later. She was instantly surrounded with people that needed her opinion.
Katie looked at her clock and said "I didn't know it was that late. Sorry Mia but I have to meet someonefor lunch." Mia, he assistant, stood up and said "I will put the cover ideas on your desk and after lunch you can look at them later." Katie picked up her bag and then walked out. She drove to Pompeo.
When she reached Pompeo she spotted Brandon walking out. She ran up and said "Sorry I am late, I was busy." Brandon said "Would you like to come to my place. Jenny's is kind of busy." Katie said "Sure, I will follow you there." brandon said "I will drive your car so we won't have to take two cars." Katie said "Alright, I will let you drive." Brandon took her keys, got in and they drove to Brandon's house. It was large with blue siding and white trim. Brandon parked the car in the driveway. THey walked up to the front door and Brandon unlocked the door. He said "Do on it, look around." Katie walked in and she saw that the place was designed to look like a villa in the sunniest part of Italy. Katie put her bag and coat on the nearest chair and then walked to the bookcase. It was full of old leather bound books and newer books of Science fiction, Horror and so on. She pulled out a book randonly. She looked at the cover and had to look twice. The book she was holding was Douglas Preston and Lincoln child's monster book The Relic. Katie had been obcessed with the book ever dince the 7th grade. SHe opened the book to the first page and started reading.
A few minutes later when Brandon walked in carrying drinks he saw Katie sitting on the couch reading. Branon laughed and said "You like the books?" Katie snapped the book closed and started to put it away when Brandon walked over to her and said "You don't have to, if you want to you could barrow it." Katie said "No, I couldn't," she she put the book back in the shelf and took the drink he offered to her. Brandon studied her for a second and tehn said "You haven't been with a man before have you?" katie looked up at him and said "What?" Brandon said "You have never had a man be interested in you?" Katie blushed and said "No." Brandon laughed and said "I don't see why they wouldn't. You are like an angel sent to earth." Katie said "My husband was a creep and he only wanted my money." Brandon blinked and said "You were married before? I would have never know." Katie said "We were only married for 2 months. He attacked me when I wouldn't give him money for drinks. He slashed me with a knief right across the shoulder." Brandon said "I feel bad for you. Now I know why you are wary of me." Katie looked down at her drink and said "He was always drunk, I could not stand to live with him and longer so I divorced him and I got the apartment, money and his truck which I sold gor money to buy my car." Brandon put his hand on her shoulder and said "You will not be hurt again, I will never let anyone hurt you." Katie looked into his eyes and said You are so kind." As Brandon watched her, her eyes started to water. Katie bliked them away and said "Where is that lunch you promised me?" Brandon said "Oh, I was thinking since Jenny's was busy maybe we could order Chinese and eat here." katie said "That sounds great." Brandon called, ordered and they talked while waiting.
When the food arrived Brandon paid the man and then went into the kitchen. Katie followed and said "Where are your dishes?" Krandon said "In the 3rd cupboard on the right." Katie grabbed a few dishes and helped him set the table. Brandon said "What would you liek to drink? I have coke, water and beer." Katie said "I will take a deer." Brandon noted that with a smile; she wasn't like all those body contious bimbos she worked with. He grabbed two, popped the tops off and wnet into the dinning room. She took her beer and said "You have a nice house." Brandon said "Thank you, you are very sweet." Katie took a drink of her beer and said "YOu are welcome." They ate for half an hour and then they moved into the living room and talked for a few minutes.
"Oh no, I have to get back to work," Katie said as she looked at her watch. Brandon said "Drop be pff at Pompeo. I have to get my car. Katie looked over at him and said "Alright," then they picked up their stuff and left.
A few days later katie was sitting in her living romm watching a movie when the door bell rang. She got up and wnt to open the door. Standing on the doorstep was Jennifer. She said "Hey girl, want to do something fun?"
I have only got this far but I think it is pretty cool. Tell me what you think.
