“I remember.. the way he use to make me smile. I would do anything to make him happy. I put my life on the line time and time again... I just wanted to be able to serve him forever, to feel like I belonged.. had a purpose. I would still be nothing without him, dead on the side of a road long ago..”
In a twisted and tainted forest, where trees of black and leaves of crimson grow high among the Yamashinta mountains, the shape of a woman appears fused into the trunk of a great willow tangled in vines of black. Her head hangs lower while her arms are held back, inside of the tree bark. Her bangs fall over her face to hide her eyes from any who dare to pass by, though none ever do.
“Why... why did he turn on me? Why would he want to kill me?”
Tears fall from her face and soak the soil beneath her where a dark plant grows from her tears.
“Master...” she sobs out loud.
Four figures approach the tree, all of whom are dressed in the robes of the assassins, the dress of ninja. They wears masks both to hide their faces and to protect themselves from a deadly spore given off from the dark plants in this forsaken forest of a discarded and forgotten deity.
“Rose... It's me, Amaya. Do you still remember me? Is there anything left of you inside that demon?” One of the ninja would speak through her mask while approaching slowly and carefully. “The Emperor has heard about what had happened to you.. It's unfortunate.”
The woman, known as Rose, who is partly fused to the massive willow tree lifts her head slightly and slowly.
“Although it may be unorthodox,” Amaya continues to speak, “The emperor calls for your service once more.. even though you had been exiled so long ago. Apparently he feels a demon is worthy of defending holy Yamashinta despite everything that has happened.”
The woman in the tree still doesn't answer, nor does she reveal her face.
“Did you hear me? Demon? I said you can come back home.” Amaya sighs, and turns away. “This is pointless, she's too far gone. Come find the Yakage when you're ready to be human again.. demon.” Without delay, the four ninja disappear without a trace.
Rose groans a little, slowly shifting forward as her body rips away from the tree bark. Cracking and popping as flesh and wood separate from a cellular bond. Blood runs down her body freely all around as she finally breaks free and falls to the ground.
“Master.. I'm going now.” she whispers weakly, “I'm sorry I couldn't fulfill your expectations..”
