Of My
Heart
“ Tell her what he says…,” Aarone shook his head in disgust. He couldn’t believe Ben was still playing this game with himself. And, he was playing the game with himself because Aarone didn’t buy it. Not for one bloody minute. Ben could continue to play his game but Aarone wasn’t going to be a part of it. If there was one thing he’d learn these past months it was that if you wanted a girl, you had to go after her. You had to pursue. He’d done his fair share of it these past months and everything had paid off. He got the girl. “ Tell her that you got an ache for her that won’t go away. I see the way you moon after her. The fact that you can’t be straight with me tells me just how much you like her. ” Aarone wondered just how long Ben had been captivated by Val. “ Like I said. Better to tell her now while she’s single. Some guys gonna put the moves on her soon enough if you don’t. Then watcha gonna do? You ain the only with eyes Jackson. Plenty men be looking and they aint gonna be this patient saint you’re tryna be. ”
Letting his disgust show, Aarone grabbed his plate and walked out the kitchen. He wasn’t going to push the guy to go out with Val. What he wanted to do was talk some sense into him but Ben seemed bent on his own mission. Aarone didn’t see much sense in what he was doing but if it made him happy well then he wished him all the best. If there was one thing Aarone knew it was Val and she was not the sort of girl to be kept waiting forever. She might flirt with a man from sun up to sun down but their upbringing dictated the way she’d react in this situation and that meant she wouldn’t make a move towards Ben even if she was interested. The poor chap didn’t seem to understand that. Aarone laughed as he walked towards the girls, all this time he thought southern men knew how to pursue a woman. Seems like Ben needed a few lessons.
Because he was feeling a bit mischievous Aarone decided to find out if Val was interested in Ben. He hadn’t noticed any signs before but Val was so use to keeping her cards close to her chest you could never tell if she was interested or if she wasn’t. “ Now is it me you’re missing or our little southern delight?” Aarone grinned keeping his eyes on her face to pick up her reaction. He hoped she’d give him any indication. Of course, he’d be more than willing to share this information with Ben. The guy needed something to urge him on. Settling himself next to Evie, on purpose of course, he nudged her side before grabbing the table salt and pepper and adding it to his omelet. Aarone was big on ‘flavor’. Once he’d spiced his breakfast up enough for his taste he dug in. Out of all of them Aarone appreciated Ben’s cooking the most, or so he thought. He’d tasted Val’s cooking before and while she could manage she was no chef not like Ben. And Evie….he couldn’t remember ever tasting anything she’d cooked before. That was strange. Well no not really. Ever since they moved in together Ben put his stamp on the kitchen and no one else really bothered. Dinner would come at some point during the day so no one ever made a fuss if it was late.
Remembering his promise to Ben, Aarone cleared his throat“ listen Evie….how about you and I catch a flick. We haven’t had a date in a while….you’ve been caught up in your books. I say you take a break and watch a movie with me. I’ll be but two hours of your time. Then we can catch you, his eyes fell on Val, “ at dinner tonight. We’ll have a night at home…just the four of us. Sounds better than me walking up and down behind Ben; no offense Ben.” Aarone did think Ben was a great musician he just didn’t want to be on the whole promote Ben train. He had his own music to deal with. Besides, he was no bodies side kick or third wheel. Taking a few bites of his omelet he let out a sigh before attacking his toast and fruit. “ So….what you guys think? Sounds like a plan?”
