Lukas scoffed. Lucette’s gave the typical response a human woman would give. She was a goddess did she really believe she stood the chance of not being sought out? They weren’t humans. Any possibility of them disappearing meant one thing. Death. Lucette had been among the humans too long. She’d obviously forgotten what it was like to be a goddess. She’d forgotten her place in this system. Lukas found he would have no problems reminding her of just what her place was. The fact that she thought he would simply leave her alone was indeed amusing. He ignored the venom and the looks that she gave him. Lucette knew him better than to think he would simply leave her alone. She knew the distance he travelled. The time he spent searching for her had been taxing. He would not reveal that to her however.

Jacques. If he knew what was good for him he wouldn’t say another damn word. Lukas looked over the human male. This man couldn’t’ compete with him on any level. Why was Lucette even wasting her time? If he had been a man of power then Lukas could possibly understand, her attraction to him. But, this was just a human man with nothing to him. He mentioned the police; Lukas laughed in the man’s face. The idea that he would be threatened by the police did amuse him. It was short lived. Lucette seemed intent on upsetting him with her foolish behavior. She would deny that they were married, a mated pair. They were more man and wife than these humans that exchanged vows. Both knew what a mated pair meant. It was no secret that once they laid together they were bound to each other. Did she think he would allow her to easily forget such a thing?

It shouldn’t be important, her denial of their connection. But, it was. Lukas felt. It didn’t matter; he wasn’t about to let her shame him in front of this human. His eyes narrowed to thin slits. Dark clouds seemed to gather in what could be seen of his dark brown eyes. “You are the one that is foolish. Did you think I would not come after you? You knew what our actions would result in. We are bound to each other; a pair mated.” Lukas took a step towards her crowding her space, his voice dropping to a concealed threat, “You and I have much to talk about. And we will talk Lucette. You have much to tell me about this reason that you hold so close to your body.” Lukas’s eyes didn’t waver from hers. He wanted her to see the truth in his eyes. He wanted to see the truth in hers.

His temper lashed before he could rein it in, “ do you think a human marriage compares to what we have? You’ve allowed your mind to be tainted by these ….humans..” Lucette should have no doubt. The challenge put to him would be answered. Did she think he would not? He was a man of pride and she was bringing him to shame in front of a human. One that was not even worth the very air he breathed. She took a step towards her artist and he followed. This time there would be no compromise. Things could have been different, if the woman had been more agreeable. They both knew there were things to speak about. Questions hung between them and the answers all laid with her. She thought he would simply leave; knowing what he knew. Even know he could not help noticing the subtle tell tale signs of her body.

The white dress she wore flattered her body. It did nothing to hide the swelling of her breast from his eyes. Lukas could not deny the instant reaction his body had. She would always hold this power over him; destined as they were. Their bodies were not the only things they would share with each other. His eyes trailed pass the valley of her breast to rest on her stomach. Slightly convex with the growth of their child nestled within. Lukas let his eyes linger there; then turned his gaze back to Lucette. Oh yes, they had much to talk about. If she wished to make a scene about it he would be more than happy to oblige her.

Jacques voice interrupted him once again. Lukas let out a sigh. Why was the human still there? “ I assure you woman, mine. I am prepared to get my way. We can do this the easy way where both of us walk out of here and you with your pride. Or I can sling you over my shoulder with you kicking and screaming. You may wish to deny me but, you will find that impossible.” Grinning at her he held out his hand, “we both know how the fates will feel about this. They would be most disappointed to know you ran from me. After all of these years of us defying them. I of course will have to offer them information that should remain between us to gain their assistance in gaining you to my side.
