Aleksei Grisha Dubois
Master of The City

They have not wanted Peace at all; they have wanted to be spared war -- as though the absence of war was the same as peace.
[Dorothy Thompson]

He knew it would work. Aleksei could feel the shift in the environment. There had been a change the energy was no longer lazy. It surged to life, it was aggressive. He should leave, should walk away. The hunter in him held him waiting. The fleeting spirit of a smile lingered on his lips as he looked at the lycan that stood before him demanding to know what he was doing at Pressure. Aleksei would not be the one to break the thin barrier of peace between the lycans and the vampires. But, that did not mean he would not taunt the lycan before him.

There was a time when the servant would not speak to it’s master in such a manner. It seems...the more a race grows in number the more defiant it becomes. I still wonder if this is a good or bad thing. Such things should not matter, though...do you not think so doc?” He purposely addressed the human not bothering to talk to the lycan. It was not that he thought the lycan below him...well of course he was not as superior, but he knew the temper these beast had. They did not have the sophistication of the vampire. Taunting was not something lycans could endure. And, he was indeed taunting the lycan.

Then without any thought to his sanity, the fates tossed this curve ball at him. He had been confident. His jet black eyes taking in every inch of the lycan before him. This one would be worthy to track. He seemed a hunter, even if a bit egger. The task would be an enjoyable one. Aleksei knew in the end he would win. The lycan was too consumed with the thought of his own power. His own strength. The smirk against his lips held a glee and promise of things to come. He was about to say more to the human that stayed to act as a buffer between the two races.

It was comical really, the thought of a human being the peacemaker between such strong enemies. But, that was the current role of these powerless beings. There were even some that thought to use the small amount of power to their advantage. They laid in wait thinking they could control such powerful beings. What the ceased to realize was, should any of the other races die out. Only humans would be left to prey on. And, they could easily be controlled and manipulated through lust and fear. For now, they were safe.

That was not the reason for the swift change in this moment. No, a human could never have that much power on Aleksei. He held no love, nor affection for them. They were simply vassals to be used and manipulated to his will. He saw other vampires and lycans alike who formed bonds with their prey to be foolish. These seem prey would turn to them for help and then they would forced to choose between their own kind and those of their heart. It was easier to keep things uncomplicated. That was the way Aleksei lived his life. There were no complications and anything that would become a complication were soon eliminated.

His uncomplicated life received a deadly blow. That blow came in the form of a small blonde haired lycan. Just the sight of her was a jolt to his mind. As, he held the fledglings immobile moments ago; she held him immobile. 1000 years of memories fought against the invasion of years, a millennia of forgetting. Had he been a weaker being. He would have succumb to the force of the flood. There was a lustful possessive haze in his eyes when he looked over the small woman that touched the arm of his prey.

Aleksei had to find focus. His mind felt as if it were splintering apart. And, had he been alone he would have welcomed the sudden change. But, he knew not the affects. He didn’t know what was happening. The woman before him was familiar and yet he had not seen her before. He had memories of her that were being unlocked. She had been a vampire at the time. What was despicable about these memories was that...he had been a lycan. He had been what she now was. And, he protected her, lived for her, would die for her; but most of all...he held love for her.
Their eyes locked. Her eyes like yellow ambers burned him, until he physically jumped back from what had been between them. He knew the lycans would see his reaction to the woman. They would come to their own conclusion about her and protect her even more. But, that would not stop him. He had to have her. She had been protecting him, from her own kind. They did not know; he saw it. It was there in her eyes. There was more to this tale and he wondered if it had anything to do with the rush of memories and emotions that were force their way into his body.

Turning his gaze to Doc, he pulled in the wall of steel around his emotions. The last thing he needed to do was broadcast what was going on to the human. “ Nothing can last for ever doc. Make sure you choose your side wisely.” The vampires behind him hissed an approval. He motioned for them to leave. As they disappeared, he ensured they were not followed. Aleksei did not fear these lycans and if they knew who he was and what his position was in this city. Then they would know that should they kill him it would be war indeed. And, their family would be the first to be destroyed. Aleksei was too powerful in the vampire community.

He smirked at the lycans. Even though he looked at them, his attention was on the small blonde that stood there like a barrier between him and her kind. “ Pups....enjoy your night.” The grin was the last thing of him that remained as he disappeared with the speed of his kind. As he departed he recalled every moment in the presence of the blonde lycan. It was then he recalled the way the male lycan tossed her to the side. Something in side of him exploded. How dare the man hurt her in such a way. Rage pooled into his mind, now he truly did have a reason to hunt the lycan. Promise of his retaliation whipped out on the wind. The lycans would feel his wrath even if they never saw it.

Aleksei went into the mansion th held the members of his coven. The miniature castle had been his home for many years and would remain so for many years. He moved through the castle with much on his mind, too much. It was almost impossible for him to balance his thoughts and control the flood of information from him in another life. The life where he was a lycan.

Did you find the young ones? Was there damage done?” It was Lucianna who asked these questions of him. Many considered the woman his mistress. He often thought he had feelings for the red haired woman. But, these feelings were nothing compared to what he felt in the world where he had been a lycan. Aleksei was finding it hard to imagine himself as a lycan. But, the memories were too ripe. Memories of him protecting the blonde petite vampire that had been his life. The memories were unfolding from the first moment with her. “Yes, I found them. I am not to be disturbed this night.

He walked off leaving her with those words. Entering his room he closed the curtains that had been drawn to welcome the night. Aleksei didn’t want even the night to witness his confusion. No, he needed darkness he needed the silence to come to come to terms with what was filling his mind. Aleksei sat in one of the leather chairs that was in the sitting room that was situated in his bedroom. He imagined this night would be filled with surprising information that he knew next to nothing.
