~Destiny~

Prologue

He laid there, taking in the scent of the spring morning. The pain was getting worse but to him, everything was numb. The world is different now, he thought, everything is... beautiful. Because she made it, he thought. He closed his eyes and let the events of the last few days flash before him.

---------------

He was hunting, something that would feed him for a while, a small deer probably. He has no family, he has no one. As everything in nature changes with time, he seems to be unaffected. Like a rock in the river, he's staying still. He shows no emotion, no fear, anger, love, not even pity as he slaughtered his preys. He couldn't show emotion, emotion is like an attachment. Everyone will die, but he wouldn't, it will be too painful if he was attached to the world.
He felt a gush of wind. He has arrived at the edge of a lake. He noticed a feather, slowly floating towards earth, then a girl. She floated like the feather, slowly, letting the wind carry her down to the ground. He ran into the lake and caught her just as she was about to hit the water. She's light, he thought, too light, like a feather. She has long eyelashes he noticed, just then those pair of eyes opened and looked into his.
Those lilac coloured eyes, the light purple set off earthquakes in his heart. Then she smiled, like a flower blooming. Beautiful, he thought. "Sorry about that." The girl said. "Oh." "You can put me down now." "Oh." He stuttered "Oh, I'm sorry." She smiled again. He asked her about herself. She doesn't seem to know where she was from; all she remembers is waking up in his arms. "What is your name?" he asked. "Surely you remember that." She thought for a moment, "Iris." She finally said after the pause. Lilac eyes and iris for name, what a coincidence, he thought.
She had nowhere to go, so he brought her along. This is so unlike me, he thought aloud, but he cared for her anyway. What he didn't know was that the human species is on the edge of extinction and she was sent by the Guardian of Life to recreate the world. She, herself isn't aware of that either, all her memories have been suppressed when she was send to the realm of mortality.
On the third day they arrived at Mt. Cephiro. Legend has it that on top of the mountain there is a crystal. The Crystal of Light, the people called it. It was said that the crystal grants wishes, but those who went with ambitions never came back. They decide to take their chances. They climbed the mountain and arrived at the mouth of a cave. Guarding it was an ancient dragon. The dragon woke to their presence.
"What do you want human?" the dragon asked in a raspy voice. "It's rare to see mortals now, only a few are left last time I heard." The dragon stated. "What!?!" he claimed. "Almost all human are gone???" "You came here with a wish I presume?" went on the dragon. "Yes." He answered. "What is it?" "I want the crystal to return her memories." He pointed at the girl. "The crystal has become weak, it cannot grant a wish like that." The dragon told them. "Why?" wondered the girl. "Because the crystal lives on the life force of mortals. There are so few left that the crystal is very so weak. A sacrifice would work though." The dragon slowly explained
"A sacrifice..." he murmured. "What is there to sacrifice?" "Your life, young man" answered the dragon. "Very well." He said. "No! You can't!" She cried. "But I have to." He insisted. "You are different for a regular human being, the way you fell from the sky." He explained. "You are here because something is happening, something you have to fulfill. Time did not affect me because I have something to fulfill, and I think I've found it." With that he drove his hunting knife into his heart.
Images started appearing before her eyes. "My duty... recreate mankind..." she said to herself. Then everything made sense. She knelt beside him, "Thank you." She whispered into his ear. "Please, before I fulfill my destiny, tell me your name." He smiled at her weakly. "Artemis." "Artemis, close your eyes now my hunter." She said. Then her chest began to glow, soon her body, and then the world was covered in white.

Epilogue

He opened his eyes again. This was my destiny, he realized, this was what the Great One had in mind for me. "Iris." He whispered out the name as if it was a precious gem. He closed his eyes and welcomed death with open arms.
