Let's Lose Ourselves, Again, Tonight.
Chapter..3!
Chapter 3

“What? Why are you smiling? Wait… do you know me?” I demanded of him. No response. “Come on, tell me! We were just trading names, how could mine have any significance to you?” He just sat there, smiling like an idiot. I sighed and went back to stirring my coffee. I told myself that I would ignore him. Even though he’s so beautiful, I just need to ignore him. Don’t even look at him. Keep your eyes on your coffee, I told myself.
“I-I missed you,” he finally stuttered out. I looked at him confused. His eyes filled with hurt. “Don’t you remember me? We used to be like best friends, remember? Don’t tell me you don’t even know who I am.”
“I’m sorry, but I don’t remember you… I don’t even think we’ve ever met before…. Unless…” I trailed off. Then I saw him reach back to his back pocket and pull out a folded up photo. He took my hand and put the folded photo into it. I opened it, and my eyes welled up, tears spilling down my face.
The photo had a beautiful boy hugging a girl close to his chest. He had crystal blue eyes and long black hair, and a completely perfect face. I knew the girl he was hugging all to well. I pulled the same photo out of my purse and put it on the table next to his.
I whispered, “Hello Michael.” I looked back up at him, and his face was joyful. He stood up and walked over to me, grabbing my arm and pulling me into his arms, hugging me tightly. I smiled, breathing in the cologne he was wearing. We stood there like that for a couple of minutes, until some of the other guys at the other table that were watching us started whistling. Then Michael released me and tugged me over to his friends.
“Aiden, Angelo, Alex, Quinten, Oscar, this is Serenity, my best friend that I’ve been telling you about,” he introduced me to his friends. Quinten winked at me, and raised his eyebrows suggestively, a smirk coloring his face. Rolling my eyes at him, I glanced over to the elevator to see someone staring at me. She had markings on her face; that was for sure. I couldn’t recognize them from this distance, though.
“Um, one moment,” I muttered, and strolled over to the girl staring at me. She was a Goddess of some sort, but one of the markings on her eye was fading. She was tiny, her head barely reaching my shoulder. Humans would call both of us anorexic, but Shinigami were always bone-thin. It was because taking lives would eat away at the body after awhile, if one did enough of it. True Shinigamis looked like beautiful skeletons. We are beautiful because we want our prey to fall in love with us, so it would be easier to kill them. Of course, there was a slight chance of a Shinigami falling in love with a Human, which led to either certain death or life only in the Human world.
“Hello,” I whispered to her. She widened her eyes when she saw my face.
“Shinigami, what are you doing here?” she said in a dead voice. Realizing she was on the verge of death from the lack of emotion in her voice, I decided to act quickly.
“I’m on a sentence here, what are you? I can’t tell from your fading markings. I’m sorry you’re dying. We need to get you out of here before anyone sees your death. Come on, you can pass in my room. Unless you regenerate…” I said thoughtfully and hurried her to the elevator.
She sighed deadly, “I’m a Shinigami Angel. Of course I regenerate. Hurry though, I can feel it starting.”
Her body started turning to essence, emitting a golden light. I tried to remember what Serena had told me about regeneration. There was something wrong with this girl’s, though. I thought the essence was supposed to turn silver, not gold. Something was terribly wrong here. I flew her to my room and put her on a chair. That was when I saw the dagger sticking out of her back. That was the only way to kill a regenerator: stab their heart while regenerating.
Her feeble, shaking hand went to her hip where her Death Tome was. She took a shaky breath and went limp. Her body disintegrated, and her essence swirled around me. A surge of energy seized my body, making it shake. I felt all her emotions and heard all her thoughts in a second. Then it was gone. All memory of her had vanished. Mira, that was her name. I reached for her Death Tome, but the instant I touched it, it disintegrated to dust.
I stood up, my legs shaking as I walked. There were rumors that the death of a God was a terrible thing to witness, and I now believed them. I collapsed onto my bed and started sobbing myself to sleep.
