Let's Lose Ourselves, Again, Tonight.
Chapter ...4!
Chapter 4

When I woke up, it was Monday morning. Wow! Had I really slept that for 2 days? My body and mind felt rested and calm, though, so I decided it was worth it. My alarm clock read 5:30am, so I decided to get ready for my first day of school. Wondering if my Death Tome would have any more directions for me, I started brushing my hair and searching for it. I sent my shadow to look for it while I finished getting ready.
Reaching for the flat iron, I noticed a bowl of apples on the table. My mouth suddenly started watering like mad, and I felt my legs pulling me over to the apples. I loved apples so much. I stuffed one in my mouth and went back to straightening my hair. My alarm went off for 6:30 and I rushed to finish getting dressed. I left the hotel at 6:45 after filling my messenger bag full of apples. I licked my lips, impatient to eat another.
I saw a familiar boy following me out of the hotel doors, and I suddenly remembered Saturday morning’s events. I believe that this boy’s name is Quinten, the one that hit on me. He had some kind of head phones in his ears and he was doing something on his cell phone. I pretended to drop my book and stopped to pick it up. He noticed me then and pulled white things out of his ears. They looked almost like hearing aids with wires leading down to something in his pocket. I heard music coming from them.
“Hey, Serenity, right?” he waved at me, smiling. He was wearing some baggy black pants with chains dangling on them and a tight black jacket was accenting his muscular torso.
“Yeah. You’re Quinten right? I met you… Saturday I think,” I smiled and stuffed my book into my bag.
“Yep. So you’re staying at the hotel?”
“Well, yes, until I find a suitable apartment or something,” I mumbled.
“Why? Don’t you have family to live with here or something?” he asked, truly curious.
“Uh, nope. I’m all on my own actually. But I’ll get see them in a few years.”
“Hah, so you’re like, banished from your family, eh?” he quipped, laughing gleefully. I could feel him staring at my body, with lust on his face. I just rolled my eyes.
“Yeah, something like that.” I ended the conversation there and pulled out an apple to start munching on. After a couple of silent minutes, Quinten started talking again.
“So, what school do you go to?” he asked offhandedly.
“Uh, I think it’s called Trinity. But not sure since I haven’t been there in about a year.”
“Ah, I’m guessing that’s how you and Michael met. He’s been going to Trinity since he was about 8 years old. I just started at the beginning of the year,” he muttered.
“Truthfully, I don’t even remember meeting Michael. I think I just broke down during some kind of class and he was nice to me. Actually I was surprised to see him at a hotel of all places. But oh well,” I said through a mouthful of apple. “Mm… I love apples. How to describe them? Maybe… Magical!” I murmured to myself, savoring the apple thoroughly. Then I saw a sign saying ‘Welcome to Trinity School of Midland’. I sighed and marched onward to the front office.
The lady behind the front desk was talking on the phone when I opened the glass door. She stuttered something and hung up, staring at me and plastering a smile on her face.
“Hello dear, can I help you?” she said in a sickly sweet voice.
“Um, it’s my first day here and I have no idea what to do. I came here for about a month a year ago, but everything looks really different,” I explained quietly.
“Ah, I see. Well, what’s your name?” she asked flippantly.
“Serenity Black.”
She ruffled through a file cabinet and pulled out a sheet of paper, yanking a pen out of a case and pushing the bundle towards me.
“Okay, I need you to sign these papers and then you can go on to class,” she said very business-like. When I bent over to sign the papers, I heard someone come in behind me. I sneaked a peek under my arm and saw a blonde girl that looked incredibly lost. She was almost acting as if she was drunk or even hung-over. Wobbling to the couch, I saw that she had a huge scratch on her thigh. It extended from her knee to the upper levels of her mini skirt.
The secretary sighed and rushed over to her with a cup of tea. I sniffed. Mm, chamomile, my personal favorite. That is, unless there’s an apple tea. As I straightened back up from signing papers, the girl started shivering and shaking uncontrollably.
“AHH!! It’s a Grim Reaper! See the staff thingy! And the tattered wings! HELP!!!!!” she shrieked like a banshee while pointing at me. “Get it out of here! It’ll kill us all! Hurry before it’s too late! HURRY!” she continued. The secretary tried to quiet her, glancing at me. I was terribly confused. No human could see those things. Unless… but she hadn’t even seen it. More or less gotten the chance to touch my Death Tome. I realized that I had plenty enough reason to worry, so I murmured a little spell of silence and forgetfulness and went along my merry way to History class.
