Daily Life
The end is near...
Chapter 3 Still Untitled
It was the dawn of the fifth day of sorrow, as we had labeled it after the day that all that we once knew had fallen. All of us have been confined to the basement for some days now and I can no longer take the pressure that is being placed on our shoulders. We are so young and innocent, yet we are charged with the task of surviving after everyone else has gone?

I cannot say for sure if there are any more survivors, but I had asked Kolt that day...

"Kolt, Listen, I need to talk to you. You and I are in the most fit position's to find and rescue anyone and everyone that's left." I said as bravely as possible. My voice had been quaking and cracking from the horrid sight that had been forever burned into my eyes. Kolt stared back at me with awe. He had probably been suggesting a suicide plot or some other means of ending all of our lives without the pain of being captured and killed.

"Lokai, you're crazy. We're just pups! How are we supposed to fight anything or anyone that should cross our path?" He asked me with sorrowful eyes. It was obvious that he was scared. Hell, I was scared. He was right, we were mere children in human terms. I didn't want to think of myself as the leader of the group, but no one of us had taken charge since the beginning. I didn't want to say it, but I was scared too. I was afraid I'd see my parents again. I was afraid of seeing all my friends again. Honestly, Death didn't seem that bad in those next few moments.

"Kolt, we have to. Someone has to be out there. Someone else has to be alive." I reassured him. Ryudo quaked in his sleep and was obviously reacting poorly to the toxins. Something leaked out from under his mat, but I wasn't about to find out what it was. I turned back to Kolt, now angry. "Do you want all of our friends to end up dead? We have to help them!"

Kolt took muck convincing, but in the end, he followed me up the stairs and through the house. He looked upon the streets with horror and disappointment. He had hated the sight of his fellow citizens and people dead and left to rot on the streets. I had hoped that he would build the hatred for the humans as I had already did. Their species was ruining our Earth and now they are to ruin us? I only had one question on my mind as we made our way through the streets, now lined with flicks of blood and fur; What were the humans doing with the children? It had been obvious that they weren't killing us when I receive a dart instead of a bullet upon killing that soldier...The soldier! I had an idea.

"Kolt! Remember that soldier that I..." The memory was more painful then I had thought. My head seemed to pulsate as I remembered the loss of my own sanity as I sank my fangs through his weak man-flesh. Perhaps I was destined to be a killer from this moment...I had feared that peace would never be made with the humans, and that these fangs would taste blood until my life is extinguished. "Kolt, the soldier was armed. If they didn't take his body away, we could have weapons to defend ourselves with." I said to him as he stared behind us, his eyes wide and his tail bushy, as if he were afraid. "Kolt, what're you..." "Lokai! Run!" he said grabbing my wrist before more darts flew past the point where we were standing only seconds before.

We began to run as fast as we could towards the school. Kolt had my wrist clenched in his paw, but I swung him around and lead him down a side street. He had been traveling openly down a main street; an easy target for a camping gunman. "Kolt. Relax. They're gone for now. Listen," I tried to explain, but his whole body had puffed up. His tail and ears twitched uncontrollably. "Lokai..." He said weakly, crumbling to his knees. "Lo...kai..." he reached behind him and pulled a dart out of his back. "Lo...kai...Don't let them...get me...please..." He cried as his body hit the soft ground, obviously knocked out.

An ally downed, I felt I had to stay by him in case the men came by to take him. But then, I had realized how close I was to the school. If I could get closer, I could check for the body. Yes, I had to. I could protect them...everyone! As quietly as possible, I dragged Kolt's limp body down the side-street and lay him in a backyard that had been concealed by a yellow-picket fence. Then, closing the gate, I left the side street and maneuvered my way to the school. I hid by trees that were positioned by the entrance and looked to see if anyone was there. The area seemed quiet, but not a peaceful quiet. A sudden ringing came to my ears, as if something huge was about to happen. Slowly, I made my way up the steps and entered the school building.

What I saw made me turn and vomit what little food I had left in me out. Bodies upon bodies upon bodies had been stacked into a pile in the front foyer and burned. Their fur had been obviously skinned off and their meat was burned carelessly. some bodies had been burned separately and charred to a crisp, but what truly horrified me was the fact that I had recognized 2 of the faces in the pile. Ignoring the smell of burning fur and charred flesh, I made my way to the room where the man had been killed. However, before I entered, the scent of men overtook the scent of the burning flesh.

Two men were inside the room, smoking little white sticks and talking about something overly loudly. I felt my ears shrink down and a soft growl come from my throat, but I could not give away my position. I waited for one of the men to talk again before acting. It would appear that the men had already taken the body away and were awaiting orders from their leaders to move out. Slowly, I walked away from the door and made my way down the hall, making sure not to click my hind claws against the stone. I knew what I could do. There was something in the History class down the hallway. I opened the door and made my way inside. On the wall, there had been a gleaming silver sword that our teacher had receive as an award for some unknown deed. Standing on his chair, I lifted the blade off it's stand and took the sheath from behind the stand. It was heavy, but I could wield it somewhat. I walked back to the other room as slow as I possibly could.

It seemed as if ages were going to pass before I made it to my destination. But then, everything sped up as the door burst open and the two man walked down the hallway, their backs to me. They had both been armed with an automatic rifle for shooting darts and what appeared to be a BAR around their backs. My mouth grew dry. My paws and feet began to shake. With a sudden burst of adrenaline, I leapt forward and stabbed one of the men through the chest. He stopped, looked at the gleaming metal that had penetrated him, then went completely limp, his life extinguished. The other man began to make a move for his rifle, however, something very strange happened at that very moment. It was as if my animal instincts had kicked in and the world began my move very slowly. The man's drawing speed had almost stopped. I removed the sword from the man's chest and, with a single blow, removed his head from his body. Ignoring the gut feeling in my chest, I grabbed both their weapons and ran as fast as my paws could carry me. Without thinking, I burst open the doors of the school, only to see around 7 soldiers waiting for me. Bullets and darts whizzed past me as I sped along the dirt road towards Kolt.

Grabbing Kolt I ran back to the house. My fear and weakness had left me. I had lifted two heavy metal guns and a fox. Running into the house, I made my way towards the basement and sped down. I threw Kolt down next to Ryudo and screamed. My body wanted to fight, so I grabbed a gun and sat at the bottom of the stairs, ready for anyone or anything to test my limits.
