upon further questioning (i.e: xd what the ******** does that even MEAN?) apparently the person felt that the music hadn't changed enough when compared to his other albums.
that, in my humble opinion, is utter trite. a person should judge a work of art based on its own merits, not constantly comparing it to the artist's other works.
i don't understand this new expectation people have of musicians nowadays. it's like they want an artist to keep doing 180's, constantly surprising and overwhelming expectations, no matter how high they are. i personally think that every artist has a limit of how far he/she can perform these feats within their art, but it is hardly fair to say that because a work is not completely new and astonishing, that it isn't any good. think of art by salvador dali, or h.r. giger. they both make art that is extremely similar to their other works, no one is going to say that giger or dali isn't good anymore because their latest work employs the same techinques (or long legged elephants), as their previous works. each has their own style and they work within that style because it is the most comfortable thing to do, and because that is how their best results are produced.
(ok, a little tangent there... just call me king of the rants.)
it actually tied in with what you said! i swear!
