On a Journey Through Darkness...
Some random thoughts from the disturbed mind of a 18 year old. Remember that not everything should be taken seriously. Read responsibly and responsively.
Vampires. The usual blood drinkers.
Physical description: Pale, because there is little to no blood flowing beneath the skin. Their skin is also very dry, but very smooth and soft. Almost irresistably charming, and unnaturally beautiful.

Can be killed by a stake through the heart, unfiltered sunlight, beheading, or by being burned to ashes. Though flowing water does not normally kill them, it can if they are particularly weak, and regardless of their condition, they are rendered if they are surrounded by flowing water. This is because their souls, or what serve them as souls, have a very tenuous grasp to their bodies, and water tugs at their souls. If they don't concentrate on holding onto their souls, their souls will be dragged away, and their bodies will turn to dust.

Specifications:
A stake through the heart lets loose the blood that they drink. The blood contains the life energy that gives them immortality. Though they are capable of healing most wounds, they aren't able to heal wounds once their heart is pierced; However, they are able to patch it up artificially, using human methods, and if they manage to do this they can heal up again over time, with a large enough supply of fresh blood. If the heart is emptied of blood, the vampire is basically put into a coma. Vampires "slain" via pierced heart -are not dead- and can be revived if the stake is removed, and they are given fresh blood.

Blood that spills from the heart would be of a consistency from fresh, if the vampire was killed during or immediately after feeding, to a very thick, dark, ooze if the vampire hasn't fed in a while.

Note: The "heart" is quite different from when it was when the vampire was human. The organs of a vampire shrivel and rearrange when they turn, except for the heart, which swells and replaces the digestive tract. Usually pumps only a minuscule amount of fresh blood through the vampire's veins.

Note2: A vampire can't die from lack of blood, though they can be driven insane by it. In fact, after a time, no amount of willpower will prevent a vampire from draining the blood out of the nearest living creature. However, though they prefer human blood, vampires can survive on animal blood. If a vampire hasn't fed for years and is stabbed through the heart, they will "bleed" a red dust of dried blood.

Note3: A staked vampire shrivels up the longer it is left inert. However, with fresh blood, the body quickly regains it's former beauty (See: Alucard of Hellsing)

(Look into how vampires would excrete blood; Possibly, used up blood dries up and is pushed through the skin, as a very fine red dust while they sleep. Possibly this is part of what keeps their skin so fine.)

Beheading: A beheaded vampire is essentially the same as a staked vampire; As long as the head is separate from the body, the vampire cannot do anything. However, one important difference, a beheaded vampire is still conscious, whereas a staked vampire is not. The head of a beheaded vampire, with a supply of blood, is capable of speech, and eye movement. And with or without blood, the vampire can still perceive and think, though it can still suffer from blood starvation, becoming progressively more insane with time. Some wizards, mostly dark and only very rarely good, keep vampire heads for their valuable experience. Although they are understandably tight mouthed at first, and it would be a fool who promises to give the vampire back it's body, a vampire head will typically talk eventually in order to stave off boredom.

If the heart of a beheaded vampire is burned, the head dies as well.

Unfiltered sunlight/fire: Vampires are very dried up, and very susceptible to combustion. Because of this, they do not like open flames, or even sunlight. However, many of them do have a certain aesthetic preference for damp castles with torches and the like. On a cloudy day, vampires can walk outside without fear of death, though they find the heat of any sunlight to be very uncomfortable. With light or no clouds, they can usually survive outside for a period of time, unless the light is focused onto them. When utilizing sunlight or fire, it is important to remember that a vampire is not dead until it is ashes. Perhaps a bone or two, but that is it. If the vampire is merely charred, if the heart is still whole, it can regenerate over time.
