Well, I "volunteer" at an Archive Room in a few towns over from where I live. The door is usually locked, but when we went yesterday, it was unlocked.
We received the 2025 yearbook from the high school, so whoever brought the yearbook entered the room, took pictures from a yearbook and left, without locking the room.
Whoever is in charge of the High School Instagram posted a video/slides of the first year book. It got under my nerves. Why?
The room is closed to the public until July. And then it's only supposed to be opened two days a week.
It seems like anyone who asks for the key is allowed in. Which is aggravating because we do NOT know who is going in and out and whether or not they are taking stuff.
The room holds a lot of artifacts from the town itself.
Then at the board meeting yesterday, we talked about wanting displays...and this was after the "director of the library" said no. The board of the library was on board with the displays, which means the Director is up for himself.
The room should have it's own budget, and funds but I have a gut feeling the directors are using that money for its own self. I mean they just got 8 fancy new computers for the upstairs. Where do you think the money came from, given that the Archive room was closed for 3+ years.
They were paying the previous archivist $20 an hour, and given that the room has been closed it should have $$ for Display cases that lock...and since they allow anyone into that room willy nilly... it just ashame that I have this feeling.
Because if anything DOES go missing? It's OUR responsibility because we volunteer there. We're going to be blamed, for their stupidity.
