Ninja-ing my way through Life
They say Art imitates Life...
They sat at opposite ends of the room glaring at each other. The red in their faces melting away is they both made an attempt to calm down.

This wasn't going to work.

The months of fighting with each other, arguements that ended up with them yelling as loud as they could, each trying to drown out the other. For her sake, she'd truly tried. It wasn't her fault they couldn't get along, there was just something about him that she couldn't mesh with, some untracable fragment of his being that clashed with everything she was. Maybe in the end it was because they were too similar, because opposites attract and similarity repels.

The other girl walked into the room. She took in the scene, her face clouded with confusion.
"...guys?"
He looked downcast, examining his toes. They weren't very interesting, certainly not enough so that it could distract him from the situation. He was frustrated and didn't know what to say, so he sat there, not making eye contact with either of the girls.
The confusion on her face was soon replaced by comprehension and from their apprehension.
"You were fighting again...Liz?Ray?"
Liz got up and walked over to the girl.
"I'm sorry Kat, I really did try." And she left the room.
Kat walked over to Ray and sat down, he put his hand over hers. They sat in a silence that was both comfortable, yet rocked with tension.

It would've been a lot easier on everything if they could get along, but it wasn't meant to be.

Way to use middle names. =3

Interestingly written. Is that situation still bothering you or something? Did it come up again? What triggered this particular piece of literature?

And the title is something from 'The Art of Murder', oui?

<i>Liz stumbled, blinded by tears, into the hallway leading to Kat's front door. She wiped her eyes and fell to the ground. Yelling at people was never what she liked to do. Using the wall to get up, she stood dazed starring back at the room. No noise came from it.

Was she just going to let this happen? How could she? Kat meant so much to her. She couldn't just stand here and let <b>him</b> run off with her. She shook her head. Her craziness had finally caught up with her. She felt a stress headache coming on and decided thinking wasn't going to help her right now. She slid down the wall and onto the cold floor. Silent tears fell from her face as she waited to hear something. Anything.

It felt like hours later before Liz was finally able to stand up again. She stood up and brushed the dust off of her pants. Ray and Kat hadn't left the room yet. She wiped her eyes and walked down the hall towards the door. She put her shoes on and grabbed her coat. She turned to look down the hall. A small stream of light poured from the crack in the door.

She could picture his face, yelling at her from accross the room. His voice cut through her mind like a whip. She felt her eyes tearing up again and turned from the room. She started walking towards the door but paused once she reached the frame.

    Was this really it?</i>

Alos, I don't think she is using middle names. Mine is there and Jon's is. But nobody has the name Kat as their middle name.

I don't think it is. I just decided to add some bit of it. If I am right, then it makes sense to Beccy as to why I added text. If not then its just a bit from Liz's eyes.

Ray let out a long sigh.

He did not understand what had aggravated Liz to that very point. He did not understand her actions towards him. He had to defend himself! He had to defend his honour. Kat's honour! For, although Kat didn't realize this, Liz had hit one spot that concerned them both.

Thinking back to his actions, he wondered - Had he been to harsh? Perhaps he shouldn't have yelled so much. Perhaps he shouldn't have let his own anger well up inside him and take control. But what Liz had suggested... what she had said! He didn't understand how she could think something. It was as if she'd been pushed over the edge! But how? By what?

He squeezed Kat's hand. He could sense that she was upset; she had a reason to be. He glanced at her slight and delicate figure next to him, slightly silhouetted by the lamp behind her. How could someone he cared so deeply for, someone so kind, have a friend who... who suggested that...

    He stood up abruptly.

"I need a bit of fresh air." he mumbled. He walked quickly into the hallway but stopped almost immediately, seeing a lone figure standing in a coat and shoes by the door.

<i>Why hadn't she left yet. Her hand just hung on the door handle and her eyes were focussed on the floor. The sound she was waiting for had come: Voices, not angry ones but rather calm, broke the deadly silence. She looked at the glass window pane in the door. His reflection stared back at her, almost uncertain of why she was still there.

    "********..."

There was nothing else to be said. Her mind raced to find words but her eyes never left his reflection. She clenched the doorhandle and inhaled deeply. A small splutter of tears and the failing of her voice escaped in a weak whimper.

She tore her eyes away from his confused expression and pushed the door open. The cold air whipped her face and the snow made it nearly impossible to see properly. She looked into the cold winter night. This was her escape.

The night air stung her eyes. They teared, from both cold and distress, while she stumbled through the snow down the dark street. Her boots slipped in the freshly fallen snow and her hands gripped her shoulders. The tears started to flow again. She was loosing her focus and felt her legs starting to buckle. She slipped, a combination of shaking knees and slippery snow, hitting the ground with a thud and emitting a final whimper of defeat.</i>

And so Kat sat alone. She was truly wracked with emotions and felt as though she had to pick a side. She wanted to run after Liz, she was so distressed and upset, she wanted to tell her it wasn't a big deal, that it would all be ok. She wanted to hug Ray, calm him down and have him hold her. She wanted Ray to tell her that everything was alright, because she really didn't think it was, but she really needed it to be.

Best friend versus boyfriend, it seemed so TV drama. A classic clash, but it wasn't so entertaining now that it was happening to her. She didn't even know what Liz did, but she'd never seen him so angry.

This entire thing was a huge mess, it was almost immesurable how much she cared for Ray, their relationship was smooth, communication easy and being awkward just didn't happen around him. It moved at a pace they were comfortable with, the kind of relationship where you can sit in silence and it's just good. Liz was her best friend, they could talk about anything and everything. And those two did, nothing was sacred. Or at least, that's how Kat would like to view it. She knew that in a small way, if Liz didn't want Kat to know something she wouldn't weasle it out of her, but she was okay with that. She treasured every bit of herself that Liz shared with her.

But as great as she got along with the two of them, they couldn't seem to get along with each other.

Kat felt she had to do something, if she had to confront them both at the same time then so be it. This needed to be fixed somehow. She got up and walked towards the front hall and was hit with a blast of cold air.

Oh no, she thought, they've already left. She started running and skidded to a halt, almost hitting Ray, who was standing by the closet, coat in hand. He was just staring at the open door, not noticing the snow.
    "Where's Liz?" asked Kat.

Ray let out a surprised 'oof' as Kat ran into him. Jolted back to reality, he shivered as a gust of freezing wind tousled his red hair.

Liz hadn't even the courtesy to close the door.

"She ran out." he stated blandly, but added "She only had her coat on. Maybe... maybe you should bring her some mitts. Or a hat. Or both."

    Ray's buzzing mind was slowing.

His anger was slowly ebbing away, as it often did. He felt such rage in the heat of the moment, but when it was over, he reverted back to his calm, collected self.

    His emotions were often unstable.

A memory surfaced in his mind. One of him and Kat. They had been arguing, about Liz, in fact. He was angry at her again, and she was defending her. They were standing in his room.

Suddenly, that overcast night had cleared, and the moon appeared, a perfect crescent. He was so overcome by its beauty that he opened the window, and climbed out onto the roof. She followed, and they sat in silence in awe at the immense and dark beauty the night sky seems to hold.

He had grabbed her gently by her neck and kissed her - their first kiss.

That situation had turned out okay. That was one time when an argument had turned out all right.

    But would this one?

<i>Liz lay crumpled in the snow, she felt too exhasuted to keep on going. It was much easier to just lie in the snow and look up at the sky, a corner sign just in her field of visison. The sign looked so out of place in this stormy town. She read the sign, then it struck her. She knew where she could go. She wasn't welcomed back with Kat, but she knew who would always accept her.

She picked herself out of the snow and started walking onwards. Her boots were full of icey slush and her tears were now frozen to her cheeks. She sign and tucked her ice cold hands into her jacket pockets. How she wished she had a thicker coat.

She walked almost without conscious decision to his doorstep, as she had done so often. His windows were lit with the winter joy that fed every other house of the street, but no lights were on in the house. She reached towards the door handle, but paused. It just wasn't right. Her hand guided itself over the the doorbell, instead. It chime sounded through the empty rooms. Thudding of feet on the stairs soon followed.

The door flung open, in its frame stood a lanky teen holding a book.

    "Wow, Liz. Hi..."

She turned her head from the snow, up to his face. She knew her tears were still visible, but she just wanted in.

"I know its really late, I am so sorry. Bu-"

"It's nothing, I'm just here alone anyway. You look drained and you're shaking. Please, come in."

Warmth, finally. She stepped into the heated house and immediately in his arms. Her eyes fought back armies of enemy tears. This wasn't the time, she thought.

"Thanks for letting me in," she said raising her head from his chest. "Ijust needed somewhere I knew I could be."

    "You're always welcome here..."</i>

<b>This new character isn't meant to be taken and used for anything. I have created him for an outlet and because Liz can only hang around in the snow for so long. So don't use him, I don't know his exact purpose yet.</b>
