Every since Motown was founded by Berry Gordy, it has given birth to some of this country’s most prestigious. Upon the many of artist you we hear about eight of these Hitsville hits.
The first one up is the one and only ‘Temptations’. Formed in the 1960’s at Detroit like most Motown successes. They were with the Motown Label for a long 40 years and still perform today. By 1982 they sold million twenty-two million albums. They have also earned three Grammy Awards and 2 other rewards for songwriting and producing. Not to mention them having popularity that is Second only to another Motown hit, Stevie Wonder…who just so happens to be next!
Stevie Wonder. Singer. Songwriter. Record producer. Musician…and Blind! This brilliant man despite his sight impairment has beaten the odds and earned some of the highest respects in the music world. He made 30 Top 10 Hits, was inducted in both the Rock n’ Roll and Songwriters and earned 21 Grammy awards. His albums also sell about 100 million units. This multi-talented artist also is a multi-instrumentalist! He is a true Motown Legend if there ever was one.
Then we have the Jackson 5 (sometimes called J5 for short). They were in many respects the first African-American teen idols at the time. They were first got together at 1962 . In addition to being the heart throbs of their time they were also the first to have 4 major label singles. After that they had many other singles going on the Top 5 and Number-One-Hits-List. They broke up in 1990.
Queen Latifah. If you haven’t heard her name at least once then you’ve had your head stuck in the ground for a bit to long! Starting her career beat boxing for Ladies Fresh, she eventually made it to making singles he someone referred her Demo single. Soon she made her first Album ‘All Hail the Queen’ in 1989. And They hailed all right! With a couple more songs, more precisely being her hit single U.N.I.T.Y. out she got a Grammy! Soon after she want in to acting and is still on top!
Michael Jackson. Let us set aside all those awful rumors and news cast (which are probably result of those corrupt journalists!) and look and the artist and Pop-Icon! If you remember the Jackson 5 mentioned above then you might want to know that he was the lead singer at the tender age of seven. Even when a part of the group he still made hit singles. Starting a solo career, co-producing and recording the best-selling album of all time Thriller which sold more then 104 million. He the World Music Award's Best-Selling Pop Male Artist of the Millennium, American Music Award's Artist of the Century Award, the Bambi Award's Pop Artist of the Millennium Award, and even put in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame twice and is also in the songwriters hall of fame! And with 13 Grammies on his shelf to boot!
And now for a more recent successes in Motown and who better than Nick Cannon then to start off. He is an actor, a rapper, and a comedian too. Beginning as a writer for ‘Kenan & Kal’ and stand up man in ‘All That. Soon he was composing his own theme song for his TV show! His album ‘Nick Cannon’ ,which was released in the December 6 of 2003 is a gold album and there is talk of another album called ‘Stages’ out soon in January 10th 2007!
Shanice is a Grammy award nominated singer R&B singer which was with her song “I Love Your Smile” in 1992 which was under the Motown label! In 1988 she got a Soul Train Music Award nomination. But she scored top in Golden Lion Award for Best International Artist and Special Jahruba Atkinson Award for Music.
And last but never the least, Mya . She has Beauty and talent. You may remember her from her hit songs "It's All About Me", "Best of Me", and "Case Of The Ex". Or maybe you saw her in a couple of movies or magazines for modeling. With her 3 multi-platinum CD’s and Grammy for her contribution to ‘Lady Marmalade’ were she co-stared withChristina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, and Pink! Which by the way stood on the top of charts for quite some time.
