Chapter 14: Arrival Of Death
Kalt tossed and turned in his sleep. His dreams consisted of a beautiful girl, whom he loved to see. She had long black hair, and a face of angles. Kalt wanted to talk to her, but always in his dreams, he had assumed the form of a wolf. She came to him, pet him soflty on the head, and began to lead him away. Kalt loved this part, because he knew the girl was taking him home with her. They began walking out of a dense meadow when suddenly the dream shifted. The meadow melted away, and so did the girl. Kalt's body had returned to normal and he felt as if he was floating upon the ocean. He was liking this dream too, as he felt weightless. He relaxed and felt his body sink slowly into the weightless ocean.
Then, before he had time to think, he came face to face with an unknown entity. The man floated above him, his long red hair barely touching Kalt's nose. He felt his whole body go numb as he began to flip over so he was parallel with this demon. Then, he felt his body drop onto a surface, but beneath him was nothing but blackness. "Wha-" he tried to say, but the demon interrupted. "Hmm, so your the one who keeps avoiding me. Cant beleive someone as plain as you...Oh, well. I guess its not my concern...yet." The man was obviously on the verge on insanity, he spoke to himself and to Kalt in a tone that seemed almost a casual, yet strange and curious way.
As the man-demon talked to himself, Kalt too the time to look at him. He wore nothing but black robes, with a cloak on the back that depicted a full moon surrounded a circle of ivy with roses spurting out of the sides. he had one blue eye, and another eye had an eyepatch over it. He also carried a long pure white scythe in his gloved hand. He was looking up into the deep blackness, as if trying to find something among it. "Uhh..." Kalt began to say, "Who are you?" he looked down at Kalt with a sick smile. "I want to kill you." He then changed the mood, "Although, you've been able to avoid me most suberbly, until now. I dont een know how I managed to get into your dreams..." he said in a voice the rivaled his madness with curiousity. Kalt backed away from him slowly, and began hitting himself. he turned, and laughed at Kalt's pain. " You stupid animal! This isnt a dream you can wake up from!" Suddenly, Kalt's primal instincts sensed an abnormaly large evil force coming from this creature. " if you really want to get out of this dream, then you can die!" He suddenly flew at Kalt, only missing because Kalt managed to jump over the sycthe as it sliced the air where his torso was a second ago. "You see? You cant keep avoiding me!" He laughed again and Kalt began to understand. "Well, isnt it obvious? C'mon, now, Kalt. havent you figured it out yet? I dont just bring death, I AM DEATH!" He laughed again; a twisted, crooked, menical laugh. "You think you stand a chance aginst me? You sword wont work here, and you've no weapon. Admit death as it stands before you!"
Kalt became skittish. If there was no way out of this dream, how was he supposed to live. Was this how people died in their sleep? Had the cold froze him dead? "Ahh, alas. I cant kill you here." He said. "It'd be too easy. Theres only one thing I can do." he flashed at Kalt again, this time, leaving a deep cut in his right shoulder. "By the way, name's Soma. Ill be living in the cut of yours from now on and when ever you need my assistance, just call to me. I know it may seem a bit strange, but Ill have to take over someones mind. Thats right, I'll inhabit their body. Trust me, ittl be fun." Kalt, now holding his bleeding arm, was confused. "Why are you helping me?" he asked. "Drance...he's stealing my job. So many people have died so far under strange circumstances, making my job of guiding those poor lost souls to the underworld a lot harder. These people, young, old, strong, weak, nice, evil, they are all dieing wrongful deaths. " "You cant tell a very good lie, you know that, right?" he laughed again. "No, I know I cant. Tell you what, Ill tell you a little secret. At the end of this journey, you're gonna die, Finally!" Kalt's heart dropped. "Oh, struck a cord, didnt I? It's only the truth Kalt! If I help you, I can kill you faster. Hey...why am I awnsering your questions? Get back to the real world and keep going! Im getting anxious."
Suddenly, Kalt was falling. Falling fast through cold darkness. Suddenly, he opened his eyes, and a fimiliar face was standing over him. Ice stood over him with a bucket of water, only inches from his face. "Oh...damn, now I cant have any fun!" Ice said. "You would have liked to have done that, wouldent you have, Ice?" Lok was already up and leaning aginst a tree. After I got up and walked to him, he gave me a stern look; A look that wasnt his. Then I saw it; His deep green eyes had turned a light blue; The color that Soma's had radiently shone in my dream. "Now do you see? It isnt so difficult. When ever your in danger, just call upon me and Ill come to your aid." Suddenly Lok blinked again and his eyes returned to the deep green they had always been. he lookd dazed and confused. "Uhh, Kalt? Where did I go just now?" kalt looked at him, and gave him a reassuring smile. "Dont worry about it Lok, you just zoned out." Lok, Ice, and Kalt packed their belongings and set out once agian, Kalts mind filled with thoughts of what was going to happen, and how his death would come. I sat above in the trees, watching them all; spying into Kalts dream. I once again used my portal system to keep a close eye on them as they approached the end of this dense forest.
