I hate Valentine's day. And no, it's not just because I'm a loser who has never had a date for Valentines day (Although that's true too), nor is it that I hate the idea of a day specifically set aside for love. However, it's what Valentine's day has become that ticks me off.
First of all, it's really become a day that's works best for the chocolate companies and card companies. I mean, even kindergarteners traditionally get Valentine's day cards for everyone in their class! How stupid is that? It doesn't matter if they like the people they give the cards to or not. They go out and buy special bulk packages with candy, and give one to every other kid. So, not only does everyone waste a bunch of money on kids they don't even like, but the kids end up with cavities because they got twenty lollipops for Valentine's day.
Second, it's a holiday that is completely set against single people, like say, me. It's bad enough that it's a day that rubs the fact that you don't have a significant other in. It's bad enough you try and spend the day at home, pondering how lonely you are. But then those people who -are- couples are all over the place kissing, and being all ooey-gooey lovey-dovey. It gets really disgusting sometimes. I mean, people stand right there in the middle of the class room, "loving" at each other, kissing loudly, tickling each other... It's really annoying. Holding hands, as much as it makes me ache, I can understand. But all that kissing... Junk...? Iie!
And, in the specific occasion I'm talking about, they guy in the relationship was trading cards with me -during- all this kissy-lovey-crap. What's up with that?
So, in concluding, I'm not against people enjoying Valentine's day. Do whatever you want to do, and my blessing. Just, please be considerate of us poor single people, and don't do it around us!
