The next morning, Vadri crept off of the ship, careful not to wake any of the crew. Her stealth was unnecessary; they were all far too hung-over to care, or even notice her get up. At the very edge of the town, she hesitated. It was early; not many places would be open. So she pulled out her Jetboard and decided to look around. She quickly found a river to follow, so that if she got lost, she could find her way back with the river.
After about a half-mile, a familiar sound reached her ears, but she was too lost in her own thoughts to notice it until she heard a voice call to her.
"Vadri?"
She snapped back to reality. There, on the river bank, was Jak, his own Jetboard in hand. She jumped onto the bank and stood there staring at him in silence. For the first time since they had met, they were alone. Not even Daxter was with Jak. At length, Vadri spoke. "Where's Daxter?" she asked.
"With Faramir back at the campsite. We came looking for you. Come on, we'll take you back." He reached out and grabbed her arm, but she resisted.
"No," she said.
"Vadri, what...?" He searched her eyes, trying to find an explanation. She didn't want to go back? She wanted to stay with her kidnappers?
"I'm safe here, with the corsairs. They don't treat my like a captive," she said. "Besides, if I stay, I won't have to marry Boromir."
He took a step closer to her. "Vadri... if... if you want to stay with them, there's nothing I can do about that. But we'll still come find you."
She took another look at him, then hopped back on her Jetboard and went back down the river.
