It was dark out. Jak, Daxter, and Faramir had stopped for the night. They had built a small fire and cooked dinner, and were now just sitting around.

"I wonder how far ahead they are?" Jak said. "I wonder if Vadri's alright..."

"We may be much closer than you think. Often times we have to go the long way around mountains and forests when actually the destination is only a few miles away..."

"THEN WHY THE HELL ARE WE GOING THROUGH THIS FOREST?!" Daxter yelled.

"Because," Faramir said, brushing the Ottsel off of his shoulder, "it is shorter."

Little did they know that on the other side of the forest they were in, the ship Vadri was on had set into port in a small corsair town. (see footnote) As Vadri sat in a bar next to Jack, a mug of ale in her hand, her mind kept wandering back to Faramir, and Daxter... and Jak. It was just a kiss-- why was she so pissed at him? She wondered what he was doing; if he was still in prison; if he had been released... or worse.

"...Eh, luv?"

She jerked slightly as she realized Jack was talking to her. "What? Oh, yes, sure," she said distractedly. This answer seemed to satisfy Jack, and he turned back to whomever it was he was talking to.

She quickly drank her ale and ordered another before she could start thinking of Jak again, hoping to get drunk enough not to care any more. But she couldn't stop thinking about him. Jak, she thought, where are you...?

Note: Regarding the whole forest thing, yes, I realize on maps of Middle Earth the area around Umbar is blank. But then I realized, that yes, part of it was desert, but the maps in the books were written by characters, who rarely (if ever) travel into Rhun or Haradwaith, so wouldn't most of it be uncharted? So, technically, for all we know, there COULD be a forest there, or mountains, or whatever.
