NIGHTMARE
black blankets of slumber,
silent,
creeping,
eerie warmth,
and unwelcome confusion,
Slipping into a world of dreams,
not knowing what,
i'll find,
choking silence,
all around,
smothering,
abrubtly,
a phone rings once,
cutting the soundless night,
slicing through strands,
of irradecent moonlight,
seeping through my window,
nothing,
unsettling queit,
flows back again,
head cradled by a pillow,
soft whispers in my ear,
hot breath,
dancing on my cheak,
unnerving,
who's speaking to me,
louder whispers,
faster whispers,
screaming whispers,
panic,
disorder,
confusion,
disaster,
then,
silence,
a warm dark room,
small comforting light,
heart beating,
fast as the flutter,
of a humming birds wings,
eyes wide,
pinpoint pupils,
damp from tears,
the aftermath of a nightmare,
still crawling in my mind,
clawing,
and raking at the edges of sanity,
restless,
tired,
confused,
and warry,
i lay myself back,
on my cool dark pillow,
shut my eyes,
and dream again.
