The more time you have;

the more mistakes you make.

She wanted to surprise him. Raiden liked that. HE always liked that she wanted to do things to nudge him off the edge or even do things that she knew would make him happy. And, she knew seeing her wouldn’t be so much a surprise as it would be making him happy. It was a bit..over the edge but it was the truth. Being with her made him happy. Looking at her, well recently it had become his latest obsession. And, if it hadn’t been normal for him to call his best friend he would have called her anyway just to get a glimpse at her. It had been weeks since they saw each other last. Phone and video calls were regular but it wasn’t the same as being with her. There was something about her presence that couldn’t be experienced through a phone call or a video chat. There was just something about being in the room with her, seeing the way her hair fell, smelling that fruity something she always wore that seemed to be driving him insane lately! When the was home he tried to remember the name and buy a bottle just so he could have her scent with him but, when he told his sister she told him he was far beyond lame and that it wasn’t cute but borderline freak. No girl would like that she informed him. All he had to do was keep it cool and before he knew it this mystery girl would be falling all over him. The idea of Aimi falling for him made him smile. He couldn’t see it. Raiden wouldn’t even let himself think about the possibility of it. All he wanted was the chance to be her boyfriend and they could just let things bloom from there.

Luckily Raiden had no idea the thoughts coursing through Aimi’s mind. He would be crushed. Well not really. They weren’t thoughts he hadn’t had himself already. If he’d thought them then he could at least expect her to think the same. Besides, he’d be what a downgrade and she’d be the upgrade; in the popular world that is. Outside the ‘popular’ sphere; Raiden was definitely the upgrade. But, few people knew it. He wasn’t the sort of guy that flaunted how rich his family was. Everyone knew his family was well off, but then most of the people attending the university were well off. No need to let them know he was probably one of the richest young students at the university. He was here to get his education not to be welcomed into the rich kid academy. Raiden did his best to avoid any questions about his family’s wealth in high school and neatly managed to avoid it now. There were some dramas he had always been smart enough to avoid. He also thought he would have avoided any social engagements but as life would have it. He and Aimi stumbled upon each other. More like she stumbled into his life and now it seemed he didn’t want her to stumble out. Raiden couldn’t help that cheeky smile on his lips as he watched her watching him. He knew he changed. But, Aimi was looking at him as if she was seeing him for the first time. It unnerved him.

Isn’t this what you wanted?

Yeah,” was the only response he could muster to the question he asked himself and to Aimi’s question. “ I let the sisters get their hands on me and well…they had a great break. I’m the first male make over they’ve done. Because they’re in boarding school…..well they took enough pictures to share with all the girls at school.” Raiden felt a bit sorry for his sisters. At least, he’d been able to go to international school, where he could come home to their house. The girls didn’t seem bothered though. They were in heaven. Not to mention there was always one story or drama when they were speaking with his mother over web cam, or, whenever they happened to drop him one of those monthly calls that seemed to last forever. He loved them though. Raiden never realized that before. He loved his family. Odd, but he never thought about actually loving his family before. He’d been so focused on the fact that he was so different. This wasn’t something he wanted to think about now, not when he was away from home. Especially, not when he had Aimi in front of him and it had been weeks since they’d seen or really spoken to each other. There were way more interesting things to speak about. Thoughts could be saved for later.

She followed him into the kitchen, of course she did. Aimi wasn’t a stranger to his house. Why did he expect her to stand out in the hallway and wait for him? It was the transition from his parent’s home to his place. At his parent’s house, no one ever followed anyone into the kitchen. They always had people bring things out. This was an entirely different ball game. Things were ‘normal’ here. Well not really normal but they were comfortable. He just had to get back into this mind frame. Handing Aimi the glass he chuckled when she said she was all his. Boy! If only she knew just what thoughts that sentence provoked. Raiden was surprised by her last statement. He leaned back against the counter that provided just enough angle so they could look at each other, “ Why didn’t you go out?” Aimi went out. It was what she did. She was a socialite. Raiden could be as well but he wasn’t. It didn’t come natural to him the way it did for her. People liked Aimi. She had an aura that just attracted people. If Raiden tried he could have the same affect. The thing is he didn’t want to try with anyone else but with Aimi. Of course, all that was suppose to change with his ‘new’ attitude he’d been told. No girl want a guy other girls couldn’t see themselves with. So he’d been told. His job now was to turn on the appeal. They had a week long session with lessons in the mall, park—luckily they were too young for the club or he was sure they would have dragged him in one. His sisters were ruthless, but smart. They knew the workings of society and they knew what to do to make it work for him. So…..he was going to take their advice and see where it lead him.

Aimi jumped off the counter and headed out on the sofa. Before he let himself follow her Raiden collected her glass and washed and rinsed it off before putting it on the dish rack to dry. What? It was mentioned that he was a clean freak. Following Aimi out he dropped in the sofa besides her tucking his hands behind his head. What he really wanted to do was turn towards her and stare at her. But, he wasn’t trying to act like a love sick puppy. He liked Aimi; he wasn’t in love and he wouldn’t pretend like he was. He was interest. Very interest but that was it. And, if she said no then no. He’d find someone else and he knew he would. Because, before he ever thought about dating Aimi he knew there would be a woman out there for him and when he was ready he would search and find her. He just had to be ready first. Raiden didn’t know if Aimi was the woman or if he was ‘ready’, but he was interested. And, for now that was enough.

What have I been up to? Ummm…not much really. Just the usual working on software. I’ve got a big project for a course I’m taking this semester and I just want to get a head start. I sent a message to the professor over the break and he gave me a syllabus of what we’re going to be doing. I’ve got most of the first assignment down. ” Raiden stopped. He was being a geek. But, then Aimi already knew that about him and that still didn’t scare her off, other than school work I’ve been spending some time with my family. It was ….different. Nice.” Raiden didn’t speak about his family. When he did it was always to mention how impossible his parents could be. Impossible and his parents seem to be two words that could not live without each other in Raiden’s world. So for him to even say a vacation home was different….nice. It definitely meant change. “ What about you ? How was your break? Any wild parties or celebrity citing? How are things with you and the guy?
