Phelix Agapios Tomaras, son of the god Anteros, nephew to the god Eros and grandson to the god Aphrodite always seemed to rub shoulders with love in the wrong way. One would think with such a formidable lineage he would be able to yield love with more skill than most. That however was not the case. Love always seemed to play some trick on him especially when he believed that he had managed to successfully figure it out. This would be one of those moments when his battle with love and the definition and expression of the emotion would change his life forever.

He sat on the bed with silken white sheets wrapped around his waist. The woman had given him a look of love and desire and as his father’s son and the demi god of requited love, he could not deny her. He knew the pain of love denied. He also knew that she had stirred passion within him with one glance and like many things this was beyond his control. Why else would he be in the sacred rooms of the scribe virgins for the muses? He already had more than his fair share of trouble with that specific group of women. They always had some philosophy they thought he should conform to. If not one then the other always thought to educate him on things they knew nothing of. Everyone wanted to be an expert on love, but the truth was even the experts were just learning. The essential element of love is the nature to fail and forgive. It was in that element that love would only and always thrive. It was not the most glorified theory but it was the one he stuck by. It was the one he believed more so than the romanticized version of love that had spread ramped through Olympia, where he currently dwelled, and earth where he had been born.

Right now, he knew the best thing for him was to remove himself from the chambers of this said female before those that she paid homage to with her chastity found them together. It was less incriminating to be found in the bed. He found that being in the physical always bought more wrath upon a person, something about being in the heat of the moment. Wrapping the sheet around his waist he rose from the bed and moved to the washing bowl. Cupping water in his hands, he let it fall over his well sculpted body. It was expected that the demi god of requited love would look very much like well…a god. His body was pure perfection and had indeed been the cause of many pleasurable nights for many women, the latest was the red haired woman lying in all her naked glory in the midst of sheets as soft as the clouds that surrounded her dwelling place. The love she had give to him had been returned in equal measure. She had been sedated and the love she directed to him had been returned. Phelix was not going to explore the rational that the love she felt for him had been for his body and the pleasure she could give to him. Who was he to judge love given? It was his duty only to return love. Was that not what he had been taught? Was that not the purpose of his existence? Had his father not been the very one to lay with his mother though no words of love was exchanged between the two? They had fallen into the weakest form of love, the physical. And, because of the intensity of the attraction he was conceived. How then could he judge others by the very measure that had created him? There could be no judgment only a reciprocation of the emotion given.

Arianna! What have you done! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!

The final shriek had not been directed to the woman that in her shame grabbed a pillow to cover herself from the woman she had pledged her innocence to. The very woman that had taken care of her and provided for her since childhood. No, the final cry that was birthed from despair was a outburst of rage directed at, oh you guessed it. HIM. Phelix turned with a sigh, water dripping down his chin as he turned to face his aunt, who was more than slightly annoyed with him. The woman was in mortal rage, which could be difficult for one such as him self. Realistically, his cousins yielded more power than he did. They also had more say in the courts than he did, which put him at a disadvantage. And, for one to consort another’s maiden, virgin maiden that was a big deal around the Mount Olympus. They would see to his punishment this much he knew. The last time he had been bought to the courts he had been confined to his father’s temple with no access to women and he had been punished with not being able to find any form of sexual relief. It had been short of torture. This time he knew he would suffer worse than last and could only wince at the very possibility of what was to come. Phelix made an attempt to reason with his aunt, “Thalia…

NAY! Do not speak my name Phelix Agapios of Tomaras.. ” It seemed the very thing he feared. No, feared was too strong a word the very thing he thought would happen was about to occur. He had been caught in the moment and in the heart of her passion, in the midst of her anguish; his cousin was about to deliver to him a punishment unlike any he had ever experienced in life before. And, she said them with these words, “You have for years discarded the rules that define the world that we live in. I have taken much from you because you were my sister’s grandson but no more. It is time you learned your station in this world.” Why was it such words always caused a shiver to course down the spine of the one on the receiving end? There seemed to be no compassion in his aunt’s gaze and the human woman was too afraid to voice her the truth of her own initiation of the situation they were in. But, how could he really expect her to get a word in edge wise? There were two gods that could do with her as they liked. She could always say that he tricked her into believing she was in love with him and that he returned her love. There were many tricks human women used when they were caught in situations unexpected. And, him being the son of a god of love any tale that was weaved about love forced would be believed. Just his luck! His dear aunt held her hand out and in the middle of her palm appeared a leather bound book. And, truth be told he was slightly confused by this punishment that she was about to administer. Was she going to read to him from the laws that governed her women? Dismal, but not the punishment he would have expected given the passionate rage that still lingered in the air between them. “ I curse you Phelix Agapios Tomaras….son of Anteros. So cursed shall you be that your name will no longer ring along the walls of Olympus. You will be lost to all those that once held high love for you. And, the love you feel for them shall not be returned for they will have no knowledge of you. I curse you to this book, bound to be forgotten until love, true love finds you.”

Phelix could only look at his aunt in disbelief as he felt himself being pulled towards the leather bound book that she held in her hands. The only thought that lingered in his mind as he disappeared from physical form was that he wished they had not the skill of cursing a person so soundly. She removed him from the memory of those he loved and who loved him most. It was the most painful of punishments to give him. He was bound now to loving people that would not love him back. It was the deadliest curse that could have been placed upon him. And, that was the last conscious thought he had as a man. The book closed and with it, his life had come to an end.

Weeks later, with a heavy heart Thalia took the leather bound book to the fates. They of course already knowing of her curse decided to help her, but no in the manner she wished, “ There is no way for us to remove the curse.” The three women took their time explaining what was to happen to the muse that stood before them. Each spoke their turn calling out the words that would either damn or save the man bound to the book before them. “ The only way to break the curse is to learn if there is a love for him and to send him to her.” And finally the youngest spoke, “ but the most we can do is send him to her, we can not force the love between them to grow and if he does succeed in giving and gaining love he will forever be bound to the book and all memory of him will be erased. Even yours.” It was perhaps not the answer she was looking for, but it was better than nothing. Thalia accepted handing the book over to the fates the sent it to the future where the one woman who could touch Phelix’s heart dwelled. It was a world far from their own, in a time different from what the man was use to. So the four women stood watching the purchase made by the young red haired woman called Sophia Beatrix Carlisle. They watched until she was settled in her house with the book in her arms, calling Phelix from his slumber which was some hundred years from the time he last walked on the earth. It was not until her nephew was pulled out of the book standing a few feet away from the woman that Thalia finally turned her head. “ Good luck to you nephew. May you gain your freedom and love.

Back On Earth

Phelix found himself pulled from the very pages that he had been bound to only weeks ago. He felt much like a contortionist as his body readjusted to the world around him. The lights were bright against eyes held in darkness for weeks. Nothing, about him had changed since the last moment he stood as a man. He was still wrapped in the white sheet that once laid on the bed in Olympus. Dark brown hair spilled around his face covering green eyes that seemed to have some hint of gold within the iris. The man was a demi god so it was no shock that he stood over six feet, six four to be exact. His chest was uncovered the sheet clung low to his hips barely covering his waist. Flinging his hair back he looked about the room speaking in Greek, “ have you finally forgiven me then aunt?
